I have a C in chemistry, and I've heard that dropping it with a W is better than a C - especially since I'm going to make it up in the summer.

So I'm going to drop the class, but then, I heard that I can also audit a class, which means I get to sit in class but I won't get credit or a grade for it. It just seems a bizarre concept to me....

Does anybody know more about it? Should I plead my teacher to let me audit? If anybody has any info about auditing a class or dropping a class, please let me know. (Btw, paying for the class is not a problem bc I have a scholarship, and credit hours are not a problem because I have 12 when the class is dropped.) Thanks.

I have audited a class before. The only purpose I see for having that option available to students is for student to have their interests appear on the transcript eventhough they didnt take the class for a grade. I don't know how "W' is viewed since at my school, if you drop a class, it just doesnt appear on your transcript. If I knew that a drop would appear on my records, I would definitely choose to audit it instead.

Auditing a class makes sense in some cases. For instance...if a nontraditional student was applying to pharm schoool and had already taken chemistry 7yrs ago. The school has agreed to accept it even though it has been a while. The student may feel like they need a "refresher" but they may not want to take the class for a grade.

I don't think you can beg your professor to audit a class. Auditing a class is done from the start of the class by registering for that option.

At my school you can audit a class anytime before the drop deadline, which was last week here.

I got a C in both semesters of orgo (and lab..)(whoops) and so far i've been accepted to 2 schools with another interview coming up....no rejections yet.
so um, a C wont kill you. Esp if you're retaking it. but withdrawing/auditing if possible would be less stressful.

and a C- is no C (you need a C or more right?)

Our last day to audit is this Friday (and to drop too), so thanks for replying so quickly.

I'm thinking I'll get a W just because it is less stressful and one W won't hurt? Although, I'll also get a W for lab too, but hopefully whoever looks at my transcript will realize the two classes go together even if they are listed separately.
