Hello everyone, I just got an email from Pearson Vue saying that they're cancelling my exam appt for tomorrow Aug 31, 2018. I've also been on the phone with AAMC and Pearson Vue.

AAMC stated that they cannot do anything about it. Pearson Vue stated that there's no internet connection at the testing site.

"Dear candidate,

You are receiving this email message because you are scheduled to test at a Pearson VUE or third party test center and we will not be able to deliver your exam at that time. Your exam appointment will need to be cancelled or rescheduled, depending on your exam sponsor's policies.

We have started contacting everyone affected by this issue. If you prefer to call us to discuss your options regarding your appointment before we reach you, please have the Case ID provided in this e-mail ready when calling us.

Our contact information can be found on our website.

Thank you,

Pearson VUE Customer Service"

My life is falling apart. Thanks to Pearson Vue. Any advice?

If you are not applying this cycle, you can take the exam in September still. They should be able to reschedule you for free.

You can only reschedule. This is the downside to signing up for a late MCAT, I wouldn't say "My life is falling apart. Thanks to Pearson Vue." It is partially your fault for waiting until the last minute. My advice would be to reschedule for September 18/19 (or even early September if there are spots--but NOT at the same testing center lol) and continue to apply this cycle. You would still have fair odds at MD/DO if your GPA and ECs are good! While it is frustrating that this occurred and I sympathize with your situation, the only thing you can do now is move forward with a solid plan. Good luck! ~

Hi, thank you for your input. While I registered as early as March, this was the earliest date I could take the exam in my area. So no, I did not wait until the last minute.

I read in some thread that the last exam date that most med schools accept is Aug 31/ Sept 1? Do you know anything about that?

Okay then that really sucks 🙁
Are you applying DO only or MD too? I still think you can take the next earliest MCAT date and shoot for the schools in your range.

I'm applying to MD schools. Unfortunately, I have to wait for Pearson Vue to contact me for rescheduling. But I know that all test dates for the rest of the year are filled in our area because my classmate had to travel to another state to take the exam this month.

All I could do is hope and pray that they're gonna send me another email saying that the internet connection is back. *sigh*

I personally know people who had to retake in September and were okay. If your other stats and ECs are good, you’ll still get some love as long as you really crank out your secondaries and you are planning on applying DO as well. Honestly, if it’s MD or bust and you aren’t a superstar who is expecting a 520+, you might want to think about taking a gap year just so you don’t have to risk it.

Edit: it’s better to take a gap year and apply once than to be a reapplicant because you took your MCAT late.

Quick tip. I signed up for the MCAT twice, both of them 1 month before my test date and got spots. The key is to keep refreshing on the sign up page hourly until there's an opening.

I couldn't check into my original MCAT date because my driver's license was expired, and they didn't accept my military ID. I drove 500 miles to take the next possible test. Expand your search, and you should be able to take the next test.

I know your question was about whether or not you can apply. I default to the other answers on that. My advice is if you chose to retest.
