I am taking the MCAT for the second time in about a week and half. My practice scores have been about 24. I am finishing up my applications and am very nervous about not getting accepted. I have a 4.0 gpa, a few strong activites (vp, pres, of some organizations...and community service) as well as about 150 shadow hours.

Is it possible for me to get in?

If you are getting a 24 right now, then I am guessing you will probably get a 25 or 26 atleast on the real MCAT. If this is the case, then yes, you do have a good shot at making it. Your 4.0 gpa should look extremely impressive. Keep in mind that interviews are a very important part of the process. Also, make sure you have a solid ps. Good luck and keep your head up! 🙂

I would say you have a good chance of getting accepted to an osteopathic school, especially with that GPA,plus you have some good ECs. Good luck!

I scored 3-4 points lower than the practice exams, both times I MCATed. Your GPA rocks! If you're not a underwater basketweaving major, you should be fine.

Just keep taking practice exams and good luck 👍

don't give up now! just hang in there. you never know how you are going to do on the real thing, you may come out with a 30+. don't look at the circumstances just know that you will go in and do the best that YOU can do. don't go in worrying about how everyone else is doing, just concentrate on yourself and kick some but!!

I don't mean this in a rude way, so please don't get upset or mad....

How do people with a 4.0 only score a 24 on their MCAT? I will be the first to admit that the test is a pain in the a$$. I can also sympathize with the people who have trouble with tests, I am that way too. However, I'm assuming you have taken all the pre-requisites for the MCAT, and likely some additional science classes. Not to mention, there is a VR section that is not sciences. I've heard a lot about grade inflation lately, which annoys me since many of my teachers were so strict as a result of "fighting" grade inflation. What are your classes like? Have you taken other standardized tests such as the ACS Organic Exam? How did you score on this? Where would you say you fall among other students from your school taking the MCAT? I just don't understand the concept of someone who has never even gotten an A- not being at least in the higher 20's, I would think you should break 30 easy. I guess the only way this makes sense to me is if people with a 3.5 from that school score around a 20. If so, what school is it? I could be wrong, you could just be that anomally that is perfect at everything but the MCAT. Is so, I feel sorry for you. Otherwise, what is going on?

I agree. Grade inflation is getting out of hand...but perhaps this is why school reputation is taken into account during the application process...

The only thing I can think of is that the OP reads very slowly

While in an ideal world, GPA and Reasoning skills should correlate. However, many times it does not. My friends are all about 3.0-3.2 students at UW-Madison and just scored 35s and 36s on their MCATs with about 3 weeks of studying. It's possible for us to get 4.0s but we don't care enough to put that much effort in. On the other hand, you can see that some of the 4.0 ppl put in lots of effort, but might not be the brightest in the class.

Check out Kim from the Med Student Diaries section of SDN. Go back through her entries. I think she scored a 23 and had a 3.9 GPA and was accepted to TCOM, early admissions.

i think an underwater basketweaving major is pretty impressive...how many people can actually do that and survive?
