Yay, that's exciting! 🙂👍
I am super excited and nervous for my interview in May.. starting to get ready now! I was just wondering, what did you US students wear to your interviews? And what do you atlantic applicants plan on wearing?
I have started shopping around for a suit, since I have never even worn one!
I have started shopping around for a suit, since I have never even worn one!
Gray pantsuit, red tank top (it was June), and black pumps. Another classmate wore a blouse and skirt. Really, as long as you look nice (think office wear), it doesn't have to be a suit. I wore one because it made me feel more grown up and more confident. But if you just feel awkward in a suit, there's nothing wrong with a nice blouse and skirt or pants. 🙂
I wore a suit to mine - black pencil skirt, black/magenta blouse, and a black blazer. I felt the suit looked much more professional than anything else I could have worn, but I don't think it's absolutely necessary. The other girl who interviewed on the same day as me was in khakis and a sweater, and she fit in just fine.

I'm on the alternate list as well
I don't think you're going to be able to get an accurate estimate of the number of people on the wait list just based on the SDN members who are on it. There's a much larger percentage of applicants who aren't on SDN than ones who are.
To give you a VERY rough estimate of how many people are on the wait list, let's look at it this way: AVC interviews 60-70 international applicants every year. There are usually about 20 international seats in the class. So if we assume they interviewed 70 people and accepted 20, and wait listed everyone else who interviewed that would give about a 50 person wait list.
In reality, the wait list is probably smaller than that. Chances are they accepted more than 20 students, because they assume that some will decline the acceptance. And the wait list will probably shrink as some applicants who were wait listed may have been accepted elsewhere. And there may even have been a few applicants who interviewed and were rejected. But I think it's safe to say that the wait list is probably no more than 50 people, most likely less.

😀 I cannot wait to sit in class again 😀
I will be also be the first to complain about sitting in class.
Haha this made me laugh so much! It is so true, the initial "I can't wait for school to start excitement" dissipates soon after.. I'm still finishing up my senior year in college so all I can think about is getting OUT of class!
Hi! I was accepted into the 2017 class at AVC and I am currently looking for housing and some people have found places... do you have details for any good places to live? I'm in the very beginnings of looking but any help would be much appreciated 🙂 thanks!
To anyone interested: I'm a current second year student living at a place with three small cottages, one of which is going to be available for next year. Great landlord, pet friendly, 10min drive to the national park (trails, beach, etc), 15min drive into town/school. Great for someone wanting to live alone or with their SO! If you're interested shoot me a PM 🙂
Congrats and welcome! I know a few of us have looked on kijiji for apartments.
Thank you, I am sooo excited to go to AVC in the fall!

I posted a want ad on Kijiji basically just saying that I'll be a vet student in the fall and detailing what I was looking for in an apartment. I got a bunch of replies and found an apartment that way, so I'd recommend trying that!
Ok great! Thanks! That sounds really good! Did you find a roommate or a one room apartment to rent?
I found a one bedroom. I prefer that my cat be my only roommate.

USEDPei.com is good too, that's how I found my current place. There's a lot of unadvertised basement apartments that people like to rent out to vet students, but you need to put yourself out there. I posted saying that I was a vet student, 1 cat, needed a one bedroom or bachelor, gave my budget, where I wanted to be, etc. I got a whack of responses for places that weren't advertised anywhere.

Just had my mock interview at the Agricultural college and it went super well! 🙂 I feel way more prepared for my interview in May now!
Good luck to everyone going for their interviews soon, sending good vibes your way!!

Does anyone know what year AVC started doing early admission acceptances for internationals? I'm wondering if it's (partially) a way for them to reduce movement on the waitlist.

Not sure, to be honest. I was offered one as class of 2015, so at least that early but possibly earlier?

I don't know how long they've been doing it, but I don't think it has anything to do with the waitlist. As far as I know, they still accept the same number of applicants as always, the only difference is that the ones with higher scores are notified a little earlier.
Someone in admissions told me that after April 15th, they take one person off the waitlist for every two acceptances declined. So while they do go through a significant chunk of their waitlist every year, it takes some time as they have to sort through all the April 15th responses and then wait for each accepted waitlister to respond before they can offer a seat to the next person on the list.
Thanks for your responses! Pretty sure I'm just thinking about this too much... 😳
Just got in off the wait list!!! 😀😍
Congrats, Daydreamer! See you in August! 🙂

They didn't say anything about Friday being the only day so I hope you hear soon!

Congrats, flyingdaschund! 😀
I doubt they'd only make calls on one day. Almost inevitably, some people who they called off the waitlist might have gotten into other schools by now. So I think it'll be at least a little awhile longer before AVC has finalized their international list.
Congrats!!! You must be so excited! I haven't heard anything; did they mention if Friday was the only day they were contacting wait listers?

Congratulations, Daydreamer and Flyingdachshund! Glad to have some more SDNers in our class! 👍

CONGRATULATIONS!! So happy for everyone that has gotten accepted so far! 😀
They'll let you know, but it could be up until when school actually starts, unfortunately.

Wasn't there an AVC waitlister a few years ago who got accepted a week after classes began?
