Average stats for Air Force vs Army HPSP participants?

I will be attending Tufts next year and cannot afford to take out loans for all 4 years. I was accepted late in the application cycle and was unable to submit my application before all of the boards began. I have started working on my applications for the next boards and have a few questions: first of all, how much do stats matter vs essays and am I competitive with my stats? 3.61 oGPA and 3.36 sGPA and 22AA, 21 TS, 20 PA. My Air Force recruiter asked if I was applying to any other branches and I said yes, but the Air Force would be my first choice...do you think that will be detrimental to my application? Also, my army recruiter indicated if I my application was submitted before the first boards and I was selected then, I could receive payment my spring semester of this year, is this true? If it is true, does it count as receiving 3 or 4 years of scholarship? What would be my service obligation?

To apply for an AF scholarship, you would need a 3.6 GPA and a 19 no your DAT. For last year's HPSP board, the average student receiving an AF HPSP had a 3.92 and a 23 DAT.

The AF doesn't do payments for partial years. If you are already in your 1st year, you will only be able to apply for a 3-year scholarship.

Several people that have been accepted for AF HPSP also applied to the other services.

wow, the average GPA is a 3.92? That seems like GPA is weighted with more importance than the DAT? I guess this would indicate that I am not a competitive applicant for this program at a 3.61

If it helps, I was one of the first folks accepted for the 4year Army HPSP this year.
GPA: 3.785
sGPA: 3.82

DAT: 20AA, 20TS, 21QR, 20RC, 22PAT

That is helpful actually! Does the military calculate your GPA the same way that AADSAS does? For instance, I retook ochem for both semesters and bumped my grades up from C's to A's. Will they average these two grades together like AADSAS or let me replace the grade as my school did?

I believe AFDDS' statistics are for four year scholarship recipients? Either way, both 3 and 4 year HPSPs have become very competitive. For what it is worth, I received a 3 year AF HPSP witha 3.75 GPA, 3.7 sGPA and a 21 AA/21 sci/21 PAT.

I had to send a copy of my transcript to my recruiter so I'm not exactly sure how they calculated it. Overall GPA may be what they crunch together for the stats you are hearing of from AF, but I'm sure they actually look at the grades past face value.

I got the 4 yr Air Force HPSP in 2011 with a 3.19 and 22/23/24 DAT. I had to get a GPA waiver. I think they look at you overall based on your life experiences and not just your GPA

Had to edit the DAT score. We do look at the whole person, but some weight is given to the GPA and DAT score.

Looks like 12 4-year scholarships will be available for the next board. A 3.6 cumulative GPA and a 19 are the minimum requirements to apply. No GPA or DAT waivers will be approved.

That's interesting, I didn't know that more scholarships would be available this late in the game. These are for students starting this Summer/Fall?

No. These are for the next school year.
