Avge time for a passage?

I was told by the pre CBT princeton people that the formula for each verbal passage was:

3 minutes + a minute for each question + 2 minutes

But now that seems a bit much considering that the cbt is a shorter exam. Can someone please help?

For the CBT you get 7 passages in 60 minutes, so that's less than 10 minutes for each passage. I believe it was 4-5 questions for each passage, someone correct me if I'm wrong

Rarely do passages have 4 questions. Most are 5-7 questions.

Personally, I try for 7-8 minutes.

I'd really not recommend to go with TPR or KAPLAN in order to be safe on read day.

For PS/BS - 52Q. # of Discretes and passages are always fixed!

13 Discretes = 10mt
===1hr Left====
7 Passages = 8mt/passage
===4mt Left====
Go back to finish 5-6 marked questions and get those 1-2 heavy calculation involving questions right.

For VR = 40Q # of passages: 7. Devote 8mt/passage
Work in pairs...
First Two passages: 16mt
1mt to Wrap-Up/Breathe/Reboot
Next Three passages: 24mt
1mt to Wrap-Up/Breathe/Reboot
Last Two Passages: 16mt
2mt still remain.

If for some reason, timing doesn't exactly go way you intended to, try to make up for it in the next pair of passages. Hope this helps!

He's correct about this. The consensus is that VR is especially longer on the real MCAT than the practice ones. I can't speak for everyone, but it certainly was longer on the exam I took.

Assuming you triage on the VR...

I aim for:
First 2 passages: 14 min total
Next 3 passages: 24-27 min total
Last 2 passages: 19-22 min total

I'm hitting consistent 13-15
