I have a neurology away rotation scheduled from Oct-Nov, and I was wondering how the interview is usually done, as well as signaling. Do they usually interview during the away, even if it is this late in the cycle? Also, do I have to use a signal on them with it being a relatively late away? Thanks 🙂

Your other threads here are all over the place. Originally interested in Neuro / Neuro IR. Then EM. Then IM. Now you're asking about neuro again.

You're a USMD with a 277 S2 score. You're going to be fine.

To answer your questions:
1. Yes you should signal them if you're interested. Even students with a home program are being encouraged to signal if interested.
2. Oct-Nov is early for interviews. Interviews will go into January at many places, Some programs may not start until November.

I went back and forth a lot between specialties, I came into medical school wanting to do neurology. Then I loved my IM rotation and I was strongly considering IM and EM over neurology because I wanted to see everything, but I am finishing my EM block right now and realized I was much more fascinated by the stroke patients over everything else, and so I am going back to neurology for good lol.

Thank you for the reassurance, I think I am going to stop posting on SDN. I will take your advice and signal the program and hopefully I can schedule the majority of my interviews for after this away, I just need to make sure I don't blow this audition by doing a bunch of interviews during it as it is a bit of a reach school for me and I am banking on them loving me. Have a great day and thank you again 🙂

This is going to vary depending on the program where you are doing the away rotation. Some programs will interview you during the away rotation and others will interview you during the traditional process. The same is true of signaling. Some programs will tell you that you have demonstrated your interest and there is no need to signal while others may specifically tell you to signal if you are still interested and others may say nothing. The timing here is what is difficult so you might want to try to gather this information from the residency coordinator before starting your rotation. Good luck!

Sounds good. You haven't mentioned your 3rd year performance, but if you have done well you will be very competitive in Neuro
Thanks 🙂 I honored IM and neuro, passed all other rotations during 3rd year (my school does F/P/H, around 25% receive honors for each clerkship). I did also "honor" pre-clinical (top quartile for final exams overall)

Thank you so much for the advice 🙂
