Hi everyone,
Just wondering what time I should start sending my away rotation applications (Feb? March? April? now?) I didn't see a timeline really listed in the dermmatch guide. I am a JMS currently.
Best wishes to everyone, good luck!

Generally the earlier the better, I missed out on an away because I waited too long. I would say the spring (March/April) is a good time to apply for rotations in the Summer/Fall (July/Aug/Sept/Oct/Nov). You may have to use the VSAS or Visiting Stuent Away Rotation thing, though I did not have to (so I don't know a lot about it). But in general, the earlier the better, especially if there is a particular place you want to go at a certain time. I believe they fill slots by order received and not by your credentials (I BELIEVE...)
Hope that helps! 🙂

Definitely ASAP. Now might be too early but I would inquire (or look at the websites) of programs that you are interested in so you already have the paperwork all ready to go on the 1st day you can send it in.

Aways tend to fill up rather quickly and I'd rather be in the position of declining an away rotation than begging for an additional spot to be added on later (I fell into the latter category myself as a student)

Some places may give the earlier Summer spots to their own aspiring Derms. If there are only a few spots left you definitely want to get things in the works soon. Contacting the chair of a program you want to attend, or one of the other faculty who may have a common research focus with yours, is great as an introduction of yourself. This way they will be expecting you as well.
