AWFUL interview ---> acceptance?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yikes, Mota.

My worst interview wasn't THAT bad, but it wasn't good, either. The interviewer would state a question, then ignore me while I answered it, shuffling through papers and clicking around on her computer. She asked no follow-up questions that might have resulted in some semblance of a conversation, except the "that's all?" kind that make you feel like your answer just wasn't good enough.

...and I got in today! So don't give up hope. I don't think an icky interview is a dealbreaker :luck:

Man, that sucks Mota. Good job staying calm, I'm sure getting pissed off/exasperated (as I would have!) would only have made it worse.

That guy is an idiot anyway, the Oregon Death with Dignity Act isn't a new law, it's been in place for seven years. He was confusing the Supreme Court upholding the law with it being a new law. Also, you don't kill the patient yourself, you prescribe them drugs that they have to take themselves if they so choose. And I thought your answer was totally appropriate.

Anyway, it sounds like he's like that with everyone, so at least it's not personal. 🙄

"How do you feel about being a latch key kid?" God, what an a$$hole. 😡 You should have said "Terrible, women should never work outside the home."

Damn Mota, that's similar to what I got from Downstate. He grilled me on current events and then proceeded to slowly make it clear that the only reason I received the interview was because of my MCAT score and that any comprehensive look at my application pkg would tell an adcom to have doubts.

I told him I had great experience through an SMP at Boston and the classes were taken with med students. He simply said that it must have been much easier than med school.

Just be calm in your future interviews if you're anything like me (downward trend in undergrad and high marks in grad). Be confident in your good performance and your decision to do what it takes to get in.

I got in. Not expected. Another interview was the best one I've ever had (guy was a fellow alum of my alma mater). I got waitlisted. Not expected.

Conclusion: decisions are random.

i'm sorry to hear of your experience, mota. i would have been totally freaked out if i had an interview like that. mine was one of the easy laid-back ones and there were only like 15 applicants there, not 50. none of us had to go the hahaneman hospital either.

sounds like you kept calm and answered intelligently and honestly to the best of your knowledge. i'm sure the interviewer took note of it even if it didn't seem like it. you'll get in!!

i get my letter from drexel either today or tomorrow. this should be interesting.

I had a short interview at Drexel. Only 15 minutes and the guy told me he would give me a good evaluation and I ended up on the waitlist so i have no idea how big of an impact the eval goes into picking candidate.

Wow, Mota. This thread is like a soap- I've GOT to know what happens...

I haven't been barbecued, but....
I just had an interview where I blanked, just totally, completely blanked on part of some research I had done, to the point where I couldn't answer a question very well, and I was KICKING myself afterwards. The minute he walked away, I formulated a good explanation. The interviewer was very kind and said,"oh don't worry about it, I know you're nervous and your acceptance doesn't hinge on whether you can tell me what this is," but I think I totally blew it. 🙁 Oh well. I'll know soon.

Hey Mota it'll be interesting for me to see what happens because I had the same interviewer and I had a really bad experience with him. I think I said earlier that I got waitlisted. Are you gonna go to drexel if you get in? Other than that interviewer, the people there seemed nice. I liked the school and i would consider going if i get in off the waitlist. Anyways good luck buddy.

I'm cheering for you Mota. You rock. :luck: :luck:
By the way, are you in Santa Monica or in Berkeley right now?

Would a Drexel acceptance change where you're going to school in the fall?

WAITLISTED. pretty anti-climactic. i'm NOT saving my place on the waitlist, for anyone that's interested.

niki- i'm in santa monica, no longer berkeley. i would have definitely chosen tulane over drexel anyway, i was in it mostly for curiosity etc.
