Hey Guys,

First off, congrats to all that have gotten in or have interviewed so far!

I just got a letter saying that I have been invited for an interview...so I went on the website to schedule my interview...and the first available date is December 3rd!?!?!?

Is it me or does that seem a little bit ridiculous or too far? I have gotten interviews from 3 other schools who have all been inviting me for late october early november. Has anyone else recently recieved an interview invite? Does this mean they prefer me less and are giving me a later date... I know the letter said the website is a first come first serve thing..but are they seriously THAT backed up already?!?!

I'm not completely sure how they schedule interviews, but it seems like they have less then other schools. It seems like a lot of schools have several rounds of interviews per month and I think that AZCOM does a block in Sept., one in Oct., and another Nov./Dec. and so on into the spring interviews. I am basing this on things the admissions counselors have told me in the past and the fact that they had a round in late Sept., people seem to have dates scheduled in late Oct., and late Nov. is holiday time, so early Dec. seems reasonable. Not sure on it all though... one thing I can be pretty sure about is that they do not prefer you any less! They would not offer you an interview if they did not think you were a potential candidate for the school. Good luck!!! 🙂

When I applied last year I logged in to set my interview up in mid-January, and the earliest available date was sometime in mid-March, so I accepted it. Then in late January I sent a letter to the admissions office reiterating my desire to attend the school, and asked for consideration should there be any cancellations for earlier interviews. A few days later I received a call asking if I would like to interview in early February.

Granted, when I sent my letter it was much later in the cycle and the December interview rush was long over. It still might be something to consider if you are dead set on AZCOM.

So my mom is trying to tell me that AZ is a little more casual than say Chicago or New York. I understand this, but to me a medical school interview is serious business. She is telling me I don't need to wear a suit but can substitute the suit pants for khakis... of, I am pretty set on wearing a suit. The suit is appropriate right? See some of you on monday. 😍

Wear your suit. Your mom is wrong! No one was "casual" when I interviewed there.

Why would AZCOM's interview attire be more relaxed than other schools? Maybe she's thinking generally in regards to that region of the country. Definitely wear a suit.

Everyone at my interview wore a suit. When I was at Touro one girl didn't have a suit and it looked *really* out of place.

I was at AZCOM in late september, and it was HOT. They encouraged us all to take off our suit jackets for the tour, so most everyone did. But we all had them on for the interviews.

ok, so at my azcom interview, I wore a short-sleeved brown blazer and brown pants with a kinda shiny (not flashy, more like satiny) light brown shirt that almost had one of those chinese collars, like squared off on top.... it sounds weird but it was kinda cute, and I was paranoid about it the WHOLE time hahah you can ask the girls on my day! but, its (I think) your poise throughout the day that can offset a more casual style, you know? I got accepted, so it couldn't have made that big of a difference!!!

to play it safe though, id go with a suit, but where like a colored shirt, like pink or turquoise under the black, it'll add personality, and it's still very much professional attire

gt2007, when were you complete?

Has anyone else ever had any problems logging into the interview scheduling site? I just got the interview invite via email a couple of hours ago, but when I enter my last name and password they gave me, it says "login failed". I tried this several times just to make sure i wasn't making some stupid mistake, but no dice. Guess i'll just try again in the a.m. and call if it doesn't work...

congrats to all those who got accepted or interviews so far!

So from the website it sounds like they interview everyone at the same time?? Is this true or am I confused by what i read?😕

I had the same problem when I got the invite. It takes 24 hours for the system to catch up so just wait a day or so then try.

AZCOM interviews two people at a time, for about 30 minutes each. They'll split the whole group up when you get there - it's all in the folder they give you. Good luck.

Just clarifying... They do not interview two interviewees in the same room.

I just checked my spambox and found an interview invite for AZCOM!! Good thing I checked...I didn't think it would be marked as spam

All my messages from AZCOM were always delivered to my spam folder, so definately check that always!!!

Hey, those of you accepted already, congrats!
I have 3 questions for those accepted.

1)When is the deposit due? Is it due 2 wks from the acceptance date or by Dec 15th?

2)Also, if a student wants, is it possible to get a private apt with the room/board budget of the financial aid package?

3) How does the on campus housing work....lottery? Did it seem like a long shot in attaining one since there are limited number of on campus apt?

Thanks!

Crt428 I was complete on 10/10/07 and I got an interview invite via email on 10/15/07 ridiculously fast! But the interview isnt till december which is way later than I hoped 🙁. Also to respond to your previous post, when I got my interview invite, it took i believe one day or maybe two to show up on the website...I didnt have time to call b/c i was busy training for a job...but it should be up within a day or two so give it some time, if not go ahead and call them.

Of these three schools.. which do you thin has the best hookups for residency matches which later lead to specialties???? Im sure the info is attainable through the individual websites, but with all you experts here, I thought I'd get a better response...
thanks.

1) The matriculation letter I got doesn't specify a date by which the deposit is due but we were told during interviews that it was in December so I think that still holds true.

2) You get the same financial aid package regardless of where you decide to live.

3) Campus housing is first come first serve. They say that housing usually fills up by January so if you're interested in living on campus you need to sign up for housing as soon as you're accepted.

Hope this helps!

If you sign up for housing, do you have send in your deposit first?

So I know there are several people (myself included) who have been accepted to AZCOM and were informed via telephone or email but haven't received a letter in the mail yet. Is there anyone here who has been accepted that has actually received a letter from AZCOM?

I'm still waiting on an official letter

Nice I just called and scheduled it over the phone. Headin over there Dec. 6th. Kind of wish I could get in earlier, are they really booked solid through then? Makes me a bit nervous but oh well...at least it will be a nice escape from the nasty Boston winter!

For those of you that have also interviewed already...

Does anyone remember whether their lectures are recorded, either audio/video and available online? I think I even asked this question on the tour but I really can't remember the answer. If anyone can help me with this that would be great.

Thanks!

If I remember correctly, they don't record their lectures.

Hey. I got a C- in physics 1 and didn't retake. I'm in phys 2 now. I noticed Azcom says they will not accept a C-. Anyone get in or get an interview with a C- without a retake? How strict are they with these grade requirements usually? my phys 1 teacher sux and he's like 76 years old and goes on rants about things that aren't really related to the topic (like the origin of certain words like "average"). If they do look at my app will I have to retake that course before I can go there?

Unfortunately, I think schools are pretty tough about prereq classes and grades. If I decide to matriculate at NSU, I have to take English Lit.

I just called AZCOM. the admissions lady said to me that if i have a C- that class does not exist to them. They won't even look at the grade. They will glance at app but it won't be condisdered for admission whatsoever once they see the grade. So basically I wasted 30 bucks.

What schools do accept a C- for a pre-required course???

But if it's like it doesn't exist to them then why would you not be able to gain conditional acceptance as you would with any other class you haven't taken yet? This is more of a rhetorical question by the way.

So what exactly goes on during interview day? Are there presentations about things such as rotations and financial aid? Then interviews later on in the day? Or does the day start off with interviews, then tour/lunch?

Hi Guys,

I just called AZCOM and they told me I had been put on an Interview Waitlist. I didn't even know there was such a thing. She said they review the files once a month and so I would be reconsidered at each review. Any thoughts on this? Is anyone else on this "waitlist?" Any ideas on chances that I would actually receive an interview? Thanks for the advice/opinions... kinda freaking out about this "waitlist."

You meet in the Admissions Office. They'll break you up into two groups. One group will have the campus tour first and the others will have their interviews first. The financial aid presentation is given to each group once their interviews are over. Then, the entire group goes to lunch in the cafeteria (there is downtime here; several of us played pool).

After lunch, the entire group meets in the Dean's office for a presentation about their preclinical and clinical curricula. Following that, you walk back to Admissions to pick up your belongings and then go home. It's a very nice day; mine was over around 1:30 or 2pm.

Most schools do the same thing they just call it something different. Some say your application is on "hold". I imagine they have people move from the waitlist to be interviewed, otherwise they wouldn't have a waitlist. As far as your chances go, I have no idea.

Whatever they are now, they'll almost certainly increase if they actually up the class size to 250! 😱

FYI, I logged into the accepted students' web site. The matriculation agreement states the deposit $1,000 deposit of which $100 is refundable if you withdraw more than 30 days prior to the term start date. Shows the deposit due date as 12/17/2007. Not bad! Good luck to everyone waiting and congrats to my new classmates!

I'm interviewing at AZCOM on Oct. 26 if anyone would like to share a room/car to save some costs. I'm a guy fwiw.

I arrive in Phoenix at 12:24pm on the 24th, interview at SOMA on the 25th, interview at AZCOM on the 26th, and leave at 3:00pm on the 27th.

Feel free to PM me 🙂
Good luck to all!

I feel weird asking this since some of you guys have already been accepted, but oh well...

I'm nervous about the AZCOM secondary essay. Something tells me that the essay should NOT be just a list of the school's best qualities (telling the adcom what they already know). I'm assuming I should talk about the school's best qualities AND how my qualities suit it well. Should I talk about how AZCOM is good for me or how I'm good for AZCOM?

I received the waitlist letter as well...on a positive note, it's better than getting the rejection letter and you still have a possibility for getting an interview. In terms of chances I think another factor is how many of the people they offer acceptances to actually accept and end up going there. So, if people decline the acceptance and more spots open they may call people like us. My understanding is that we could hear something next month to the end of the interview cycle (march/April?), but no guarantees to actually get one.

You should describe both. I would suggest discussing what it is about osteopathic medicine in general interests you and specifically why you feel AZCOM is a good fit in deciding where you choose to attend medical school. Also address why you are a good fit for AZCOM and what unique qualities you can contribute.

hey guys!

I am a Biomed masters student at Midwestern, Glendale, and I interviewed with AZCOM last year and have my interview set for this year... I think I can help clarify a few things.
1. IT IS NOT CASUAL. YOU NEED TO WEAR A SUIT... PERIOD! I just spent about an hour with an advisor who told me it is a huge turn off to see people dressed too relaxed.

2. Our quarter finals are Nov 5-10th, so no interviews are schedualing that week, and our Fall break is from the 10th-thru the 27th. Therefore, there are no interviews then. I also think there are no interviews the week before finals.

My interview is DEC 6th (my 25th birthday!), if anyone needs help with anything, please let me know. I love the school and can't wait to start the DO program...
FYI... if you dont get in, consider the BIOMED masters program, which will help you get in the following year... for more info on it, contact me.

Hope you have a good birthday, medicalkiss.

I notice a lot of people are nervous because they do not have interviews until Dec. This school goes on quarters, so I believe this upcoming week they are having exams, so no interviews, and then I think they are on break until the last week of November! P.S. I interviewed a week ago and would really like to call because I currently have interviews in CA which I don't want to attend if I get into AZCOM, does anyone know the number, or think it is too early?

Go ahead and call them, they won't mind. The number should be in your interview packet somewhere. Good luck!

We have finals this week and next week. It is gnarly.

You can also email them and inquire about an update on your status. Thats how I found out.

I have an interview coming up in December and I was just curious about something. Does anyone know if AZCOM offers recordings of their lectures online? I think it'd be helpful to be able to refer back to lectures if needed.

Just thought I'd throw my hat in the ring. Just the got the email this morning (via spam inbox) and registered online. I see alot of you guys are set for Dec from a couple of weeks ago so it sounds like a block interview setup. Anyways, gratz to ya'll and see some of you around on campus.

Question --- Anybody got a scoop on married housing? Is there any? What's Glendale off campus housing like? Hook a brotha up yo...

I don't think there is married housing, just general campus apartments. Alot of families seemed to live there when interviewed. One interviewee asked if they were biased against married couples because the wife will take a spot of another student. They said there was no bias.
