Pupster, I know this is completely unrelated to this thread, but I just wanted to say that I recently acquired a 2 month old puppy that looks exactly like your new avatar!! Do you own one yourself??

wow...they give you 2 months to make your deposit? that's a long time...not that i'm complaining, just comparing it to touro's 2 week policy.

What if Pupster had a puppy named Violin? That'd be spooky... 😀

ChocolateBear I know I already posted this in another thread and since you're a mod now you can go back and delete it, LOL. BUT I JUST HAVE TO SAY (AGAIN) THAT I LOVE YOUR NEW AVATAR IT'S AWESOME!!!

Hello All,

how long do you have between the notification of acceptance and the deadline for you to tell them you want to go there?

thanks!

December 15th is the day specified online, although I've heard that some places will grant extensions. Usually these other schools don't give you till December in the first place though so that might be part of why they allow that.

Thanks! it my first interview but I am holding out for western... hopefully I will get an interview from western soon....:luck:

I concur. <---quite possibly my future most used comment in medical school

Edit:

Janitor: Thanks for showing up in costume Todd.
The Todd: What costume?

If I saw that, I probably would've just gone. I've learned a lot about visiting other schools. LECOM also surprised me a bit, even though I knew what to expect going in

Problem is that I have family within 10 minutes of AZCOM and I live 25 within CCOM, so I am sure I won't got LECOM. And I am getting my CPR certification in EMT class on interview day, so it would be a big hassle to reschedule. On top of that, I was asked to audition for Kaplan on interview day. If I didnt have anything going on, I would have gone no doubt.

I included my GPA and my MCAT score on my resume...is that a problem?

interview tomorrow!! really excited and hope to see some of you current students 😀!!

I included them and had no problem.

I did this too and one of my interviewers commented on how he liked to see it. The other two didn't bring it up.

They probably won't talk about it beyond that.

Good luck tomorrow thrift!

Does anyone know how early students have patient interaction at AZCOM?

thanks flushot - congrats on your acceptance!! i

Where did you see the Dec. 15th deadline on the site? Also, have you seen a way to pay the deposit online?😕

Login. All the info is there, under Matriculation/Payment and Accepted Student Checklist in the top left.

Trust me CB..I've been there but I just don't see the Dec 15th date anywhere.😕 Even on the checklist page the due date space is blank.

I just called the admissions office and was told the payment info will be in the acceptance letter/package.

Oh, okay. Sounds like your page hasn't been updated yet.

EDIT: Do you see a matriculation agreement when you login and click on Matriculation/Payment?

Yup. I even agreed to the agreement on the 9th. It's okay.. I'll just wait for the letter. No hurry.😀

edit:I'll just call in a week or so if it isn't updated.

Weird. Anyway, you should see Due Date--12/15/2008 under Matriculation Agreement on the checklist page. The $1000 can be paid by credit card or eCheck (for no additional fee, it looks like).

Okay, cool. Just wanted to know the date for sure and the method of payment. thanks👍

Hey hey just wanted to see if anyone else will be interviewing this Friday. Can a current AZCOM student tell me how much travel is involved during your 3rd/4th years? How many cadavers does the class of 250 share?

Most current students don't know, as their class size is like 210, I think.

Seems like c/o 2013 will share around 40 cadavers. Can someone correct/confirm?

And it's not 6 people per table at once. It's 3 days of anatomy per week, and you have to attend at least two days. Isn't that right?

You have to actually dissect once a week, and while you are diissecting you are with 3 other people. Even though you only dissect once a week, most people go to lab on other days just to see what everyone else did. Anatomy is an "everyday" class...alot of materialso even if you arent dissecting you'll be studying it in some way or form...

I just interviewed there last week and was told that there are 25 cadavers. Each cadaver had 3 assigned groups with ~3 people in each group. The groups each dissect once per week. On the days that your group isn't dissecting you are supposed to go into lab and see what the other groups worked on.

They told us they had X amount right now, and our class would have X + a few. Is that what they said to you? Does 25 = X or 25 = X + a few?

I guess I should know how many cadavers we have but I don't remember exactly how many tables we have. We do have a class of 250. Anatomy lab is once a week for each group. We are divided into Group I and Group II and also into Groups A, B and C. So last week we met in our number groups and there was six people at our table. This week we meet in our letter groups so there will be four of us at our table. If anyone has any other questions about anatomy lab just let me know. I don't know anything about an increase in the number of cadavers for next year though.

Thanks for the clarity! From what we were told, I got the impression that c/o 2013 would be the terminal class increase, but apparently it's already that size.

It was said that there was going to be a slight increase in cadaver number. However, perhaps the person who said that was misinformed because it seemed like the increase was due to the class size increase. If it's already at 250, then I see no immediate need for more cadavers, unless they just thought it would be better if there were more.

Oh well.

I'd imagine there will be more due to the additional gross anatomy lab being built.....

Oh well.

During orientation we were repeatedly referred to as a class of 250 and during OMM quizzes, if I remember correctly, we have pretty close to 250 submitting answers. I could be off my rocker though so I guess if they told you we aren't at 250 yet then maybe we aren't. Remember that AZPOD students are also in anatomy with us.

Hey sorry I haven't gotten back to you yet. Here's a belated congratulations!! I wasn't on campus the day you interviewed because I was sick but we do have several SDNers you probably saw on campus. If you have any questions about the school feel free to let me know. 😀

No, I see now that the website says 250 for fall 2008. I was just under the impression that it was not quite that high just yet, and the wording on interview day seemed to confirm this. My bad.

Is that to add space or replace the old one?

It is to add space. The old one will be in use with the new one. I think it's being built just across the hall too. We were told it would be done for our class (2013).

Ha thanks! I know you're incredibly busy!

I do have a quick question. What are the access hours to the anatomy lab? Can students go in and work on their own?

Hows school so far?

Has anyone actually received anything in the mail yet for an acceptance?

I really liked the campus and the facilities that they have...though there is no 24-hour study area?

hoping for some great news in a few weeks - please please please, it's on the top of my short list!

My understanding is the student lounge (and I think also the cafeteria) is open 24/7 (with a swipe of your badge) for study.

Why would you want to study for 24 hours though? That is just silly. Get some sleep and you'll do better on that exam! 😉

That and you will not be sleeping through class or skipping it to catch up on missed sleep. I see a lot of my colleagues already falling into this trap.

haha thanks slim. Both my undergraduate and post bacc schools have open study areas...so I think it's a "Security blanket" thing for me. A bit crazy, I know. Anyways, still was really impressed and loved everything!

Your avatar is adorable!! Is that your baby? 🙂

Yup sure is. My little Dusty Bear.

OMG I miss my puppy soooo much and that totally made my day!! What an adorable baby; the facial expression/body pose is priceless 😀

They told us they had X amount right now, and our class would have X + a few. Is that what they said to you? Does 25 = X or 25 = X + a few?

My impression was that 25 = X. They probably want to keep the groups at a consistent 3 people. If this is the case than 25 cadavers would require 225 to man. So, 'a few' is probably the remainder of the difference between 250 (max class) and 225 (what they consider the bottom line class size of 25), divided by 9. 25/9 = 2.78 ~= 3. I would expect anywhere from 25-28 cadavers.

If it's already at 250, then I see no immediate need for more cadavers, unless they just thought it would be better if there were more.

I think it would be better if there were more cadavers. It's crazy that this years class has 3-groups of 4-6 people in each group working on a single cadaver. You would barely get any dissection time. Even nine people on one body is alot.

I mostly agree. However, there are some pros to having less dissection time.

Any current students want to tell us how they feel about having so many students per body? Pros/Cons?

I wonder when I'll get my rejection letter. I'm kind of surprised I got rejected from there. I probably wouldn't have gone anyway, but still surprised. I did like the area and had some fun though.

Any idea why this could have happened, esp. considering you've already been accepted elsewhere? Please PM me if you don't want to post here and if you have the time -- I was looking at the interview FB site and I have to admit some of the questions looked a bit tough :/

Some of us barely have enough time to study as much as we need to for the classes we have, I can't even imagine trying to (or even wanting to) squeeze more dissection time in. There are people who like dissecting more than others so if you're one of those gung-ho people you can get plenty of dissection time, imo. I don't think having four students per body is a lot at all but I don't know how other schools do it.

It works out well that sometimes when we're doing something on both sides (e.g. palm) we can have two students working on each side. Plus there are things we need to identify and case questions we have so someone can always be looking at those and talking them over with the others while they're dissecting. I know someone asked about how late you can be in the lab and I'm not entirely sure since I live a good distance from the school and I'm not on campus that late. I believe we were told the lab is open as late as the building is which I thought someone said was 8 p.m but don't quote me on that.

I sent my application into AZCOM last thursday, when should I expect a response to fill out my secondaries?? Should I start calling?
