AZCOM Discussion Thread 2009-2010

i'm in the same boat....interviewed 2/24 and just checked the portal. nothing there still. worried. guess i just gotta hang tight. :xf:

I would just give them a call Monday. They have a few extra things to deal with due to the transitioning of quarters, but I'm sure they'll have an answer for you.

Congrats Herky on the acceptance. Let us know if we'll be seeing you in Fall.

Yeah the only thing to let you know is the online checklist. I didn't even get a letter in the mail until like a month later. Kinda strange because I got an email and a letter in the mail by SOMA within a week of interviewing. Anyway congrats to everyone being accepted, it's nice to have that monkey off of your back.

Interviewed 2/22 accepted 3/04. No email notice as of yet, but I just checked my acceptance status, and everything is there! If you interviewed 2/22 check online!

My acceptance notice was only after I called them asked what's up and the changes online. I didn't receive any acceptance letter or email, only a package a month before I came to campus. So, don't be too surprised if nothing comes in the mail; what is online is what matters.

I think that the adcom does things a little different all the time cause i interviewed 2/19, my online accepted student checklist showed up on 2/23 and then i got a phone call on 2/24. Still haven't received an email or anything in the mail.

Forgive me if I have passed up something blatantly obvious. Is there an area that tells how often the adcom meets or how many interview days are left?

I stalk the thread pretty frequently, and pretty much the only way people tend to know when the adcom is meeting seems to be because the next meeting is announced at an interview or somebody contacts admissions via the phone, email, or in-person, and then relays that info on here. As for how many interview days are left, all I know is the website says that interviewing typically ends in April. How many more actual days of interviewing there are between now and then, I haven't the slightest clue. Hope it's of some assistance though.

I think I remember hearing on my interview day that the adcom tries meet at the end of every week. I could be wrong though.
When I was signing up for my interview to AZCOM, I remember seeing interview dates available for all the way through early/mid May. So I think that there are many interview days left. One of the people who interviewed me told me that they typically interview 650-700 candidates through the cycle.

Thanks everyone for the hopeful messages. I called on Friday and was told that I was placed on the waitlist. I can honestly say I was devasted to hear that but I did the best I could. Don't know how movement will go off the waitlist (deep sigh)....

I just called to check my status and they said interview spots are full through May. I've been on hold forever!

I got interviewed on 2/26 but I was placed on alternate list 🙁

I wonder what my chances are for AZCOM if i'm on that list.

wow, i was on interview hold since august, I guess its over... 🙁

I don't know, I wouldn't lose complete hope...they said if slots open up they'll look at the waitlist for interview. Hopefully people cancel!

For all those like myself who are on "hold" pending an interview: I just called the admissions office and was told that they would be re-evaluating the applicants who are wait listed for an interview at the end of this month.

Thanks Melissa for finding that out.. I guess we'll see what happens! :xf:

From everything I've read, it sounds like there tends to be some movement from the alternate list just about up to orientation. As has been suggested before for those placed on the alternate list, try to keep Admissions updated with anything noteworthy (new grades, experiences, achievements, etc). Pretty much the more materials you give them and the more you talk to them, the more you get noticed. Worst-case scenario, you'll have an even more attractive application the next cycle.

Inside Scoop: Supposedly there are hundreds (yes hundreds) of people on the waitlist for an interview. The interview slots are fully booked through the first part of May. The class of 2014 has about 190-200 seats filled. The admissions committee will most likely admit around 100 more people to fill the seats to 250. Lastly, the SMP students who are guaranteed an interview after 2 quarters (who meet minimum stats) have not been looked at yet so they may take up the first couple of interview slots that open up (This is speculation).

"Hundreds" is such an indefinite term though. It could mean 110 students or 300 ... And aren't there not that many SMP students? I thought there were only a handful?

I only said "hundreds" because the number I heard from someone was closer to about 800 people for the waitlist for an interview (I am not positive that there are 800 people but I am pretty sure it is definitely in the "hundreds."). There are about 78 one and two year SMP'ers. Of course not all of them are currently applying and some of them are also pre-dent so my guess would be there are probably less than 10 waiting for an interview from AZCOM.

So how do you find out that you have been waitlisted after the interview? Do they mail/ email you the decision or do I have to contact the admissions office? 🙂

I called them and they told me that I was put on the alternate list as well.

But, do they also send out rejections after the interview or is it either an acceptance or alternate list?

Good luck to you too.

i believe they send out rejections as well. i've read how some people were flat out rejected. but i think being on alternate list is worse than rejection. there is always that level of uncertainty up till the day of classes. i just wanna get in, pay my deposit, and enjoy my life before school starts!!

Hey for those of you who have been accepted, does anyone know if there is a second deposit due anytime soon? I know a lot of other schools have another deposit due sometime between March and May. I have heard nothing about anything like this for AZCOM and couldn't find anything about it on MWUNET but maybe I just missed something really obvious...

Thanks for the help!🙂

Nope. Only other deposit is $500 if you apply for an on-campus apartment, which is more thoroughly explained on the application on MWUnet.

First off, sorry to hear about the waitlist and to everyone else who was waitlisted. Also, yes, the only way to know for sure about the waitlist position is calling them, I believe.

Don't give up though. Many of the SMPers from last year got held up deep into June before receiving the good news. That said, I know the pain of the waitlist, so stay strong and keep them updated if possible.

This is true. Also, the deposit for on campus housing is nearing its end. Actually, it might be too late, but if you hurry and email/call Jose from housing, you might be able to send it in still.

Hey, I was just wondering what lender everybody is using for their stafford loans? Does anyone know if most students go with MWU as their lender or is there another one that is better?

I was in the same dilemma a month ago. Really, the only things that make one lender better than another with the federal loans are the borrower benefits (such as rate reductions after so many payments, no origination fees, etc.) and some lenders may opt to apply a lower interest rate than the federal max (which, conveniently, most lenders use the maximum allowed). Tracking down said lenders is quite the task to be honest. All the information I ever came across about "good" lenders was outdated and it seems like few lenders are offering much these days. Virtually every lender offers a 0.25% reduction in interest if you set up automatic payments once you enter repayment though.

I ended up just going with Sallie Mae since I've gotten a Stafford through them before (as that saved me several steps in the application process).

But, if you have the time to do it, you may get lucky and find a lender offering some great benefits still...

Any news Gforce? If the class is full by the time I interview will I just basically be interviewing for a waitlist spot? Oh well, at least I'll be ready to apply early for next year I guess 🙁

If you're still interviewing 4/15, I'd be willing to bet the class won't quite be filled by then. I don't know if you caught The Closer's post higher up on this page, but supposedly Admissions is saying as of last week there were still 50-60 slots available and to fill them, they'd most likely accept another hundred applicants. I also forget where, but, I've read somewhere that the school isn't firm on the 250 limit and would consider admitting a few additional students if they really wanted them. So, combine all of that with the fact that you've got good stats, moved your interview up a month, and assume you interview well, you still have a really good shot at getting in this cycle.

Thank you 🙂 I've been getting pretty discouraged. I didn't get any other interviews and I don't know why except for the fact that I applied late. I guess maybe because I'm non trad I have tons of volunteering but not too much in a medical environment. I'm volunteering at a hospital right now to pick that up though but I guess I'm just starting to feel like too little too late for this cycle.

So thanks for your pep talk, I'd really really like to get in this year and you made me feel like there's still hope!

You are quite welcome, and I truly do think you've still got a good shot. Heaven forbid you have to apply next cycle, you've got the game down now, and it really is a lot of first come, first serve with the application process. I honestly think that applying late into the cycle would be the only real problem, as a lot of schools are not only welcoming of, but even encourage, the application of non-traditional students.

Glad I could help and the best of luck to you when your interview rolls around!

Just note that 254 is the number of students that actually came down here. They always accept a few extra because they know people change their minds and leave.

This also why you shouldn't give up hope on the waitlist. I've said before that many of my SMP classmates got notices well into July. It sucks to get ready in such short notice, but you'll be glad to hear the news.

Has anyone heard from housing yet? I thought we were suppose hear back mid march...

Somebody either here or on the Facebook group said that they'd talked to somebody at the school and were told that notifications should be sent out around 3/31.

Dang it, I got a G apt. I wanted a J, K or L. Oh well, could be worse.

Exact same case here. Though if you want to spend $885/month, Jose told me the Luxury 1 bedrooms are still available. lol

Does anyone know where I can get the floor plans? The links aren't accessible anymore...

I've been a lurker for the past couple of months and I just wanted to let those who are the waitlist for an interview to know there is still hope.

My secondary complete back on January 14th and was notified on February 7th that I was place on the waitlist for an interview.

I checked my status last night and saw that I had an interview to schedule. 😀

Thats awesome! When you scheduled for an interview date were they all full? Also, did they offically send you an email regarding the interview? Good Luck! I'm also waiting for one too..

If I remember correctly there were 3 interview dates a week from the beginning of April until the middle of May. I don't know how many people they interview during those times or how full they are already.

I never received an official interview invite email or phone call. I've been checking the website five times a day for the past two months.

After I picked an interview date I received a confirmation email.
