So I applied for housing just after I got accepted in early feb, and I haven't received an email or had any change on my student portal regarding housing assignments. What should expect? Has everyone who applied had their status changed?

What day did you pick? I go April 12th and I'm going nuts after waiting for the last month and a half!!

Thanks. I have the luxury 2+2 in building E. I believe building E is one of the older buildings. Does "luxury" mean I get a washer/dryer in my apartment? Does anyone know?

Luxury means you have it all: washer/dryer and dishwasher.

I got my contract online but there was no notice. I only checked just now because you all reminded me 😱

Anyone here living at San Lagos? I signed up for the waiting list a couple weeks ago. Those apartments are NICE! Really close to campus too. I would recommend San Lagos and San Prado (next door to San Lagos) for anyone looking at nice housing close to campus.

I'm interviewing April 14. Are there any good restaurants in the area near campus?

There's a waiting list to get an apartment? When would you be moving in? Is there a deposit or anything go get on the waiting list? My issue is that I'm waitlisted at my top choice school, so I don't want to invest TOO much quite yet (other than the deposit, of course) at AZCOM, but I did take a look at their website and the apartments looked incredibly nice. If I end up at AZCOM I would really love to live there.

They call it a "waiting list" but its more of a "we-don't-know-whats-available-in-mid-July-yet list." The list is made up of other people who also want to move in when you are. I think there were 3-5 people on the list around the time we want to move in (July 10th-ish). They call you when they know what will be available. The waiting is basically priority in lake views, pool views, floor specificity, etc. Had to cut a $200 check, but they do not deposit it till you move in. Also, there are no other fees, MWU students get $20 off a month and first two months are free. That's a sweet deal considering financial aid isn't distributed till the first week of classes.

So if I were to get on that list, write them a $200 check, but find out in June or something that I was accepted to my #1 school, do you think I would be out the $200, would they void the check? I guess given the $2,000 deposit I might eventually lose, $200 isn't too bad.

I lived in San Lagos last year during my SMP. They put me right on 59th so all I have to do was hop the fence and dash across the street and I'd be on campus. I could see Cholla Hall from my window.

It's interesting that there is a waitlist. Last year, I applied around this time as well and had no problems. That said, it's nice that they're doing incentives and bonuses for you all since I don't remember there being any for us.

Overall, it's a nice place, albeit a bit expensive. I kind of got screwed over by my roommate when the deposit check came back after the lease ended (had only his name and he went back to Korea) and they would not issue me another one, but other than that, I have no issues with the administration. Just make sure you get the check in your name and your name only so you don't have to deal with this.

Hey all, I was offered an on campus apartment and mwu net gives you the option to "accept offer and set move in date" or "decline" Is there a certain deadline I need to accept and set my move in date by? Will I lose my offer if I am waiting for a decision from my state school for a month? Thanks.

I only said "hundreds" because the number I heard from someone was closer to about 800 people for the waitlist for an interview (I am not positive that there are 800 people but I am pretty sure it is definitely in the "hundreds."). There are about 78 one and two year SMP'ers. Of course not all of them are currently applying and some of them are also pre-dent so my guess would be there are probably less than 10 waiting for an interview from AZCOM.

I am currently in this years SMP class at Midwestern. There are around 75-78 one years in the class, but the majority of them are either pre-dental or are not applying this go-around. As of today, I have heard that about 10 of us pre-medical students have interviewed and only 3 of us (myself included) have been accepted, so far. The others are on the waiting list. Normally, towards the end of the cycle, AZCOM comes to the SMP Director to get his opinion on whom from the waitlist of SMP's should get a shot. But most those applying from the SMP have been interviewed. And some are going to other med school. So, most if not all of the remaining seats are up for grabs, they are definitely not set aside for the SMPers. If anything, we are critiqued even more because they see what we can do first hand. Anyway, just thought I give an "insiders" opinion.

I also currently live in San Lagos and would definitely recommend it to anyone who is interested. Its a great place in a great location. They do have great discount deals, but they are subject to the availibility of units and change monthly if not bi-monthly. So check back often.

Sorry for the novel-sized post, if anyone has questions about life here in glendale, about the school or about anything else feel free to ask away!

hey guys,

i'm on the alternate list and I'm currently writing a letter of intent. I was wondering if I should mention that I already have an acceptance at Touro-NV to kind of get them to make an accelerated decision about me.

Also, my advisor has agreed to write a special lor for me about getting off the AZCOM alternate list. Should I send that in as soon as possible, or wait until they actually start taking ppl off the list, so that I'm really fresh in their minds?

I have no idea. My suggestion would be to email Jose and ask him how long you can hold the spot.

It is my personal suggestion that you do not mention Touro-NV. The fact that you're sitting at another school might backfire in that they think you'll be fine there. If you want AZCOM, just talk about AZCOM.

Also, that LoR would be fine, considering adding anything substantial at this point would help. That said, don't lose hope: this summer is usually when they start moving the waitlist and they move it quickly.

No offense, I understand how important your medical endeavors are to you and all...but there are some of us out here who are waitlisted with no acceptances. If you're already accepted to a medical school, I would make my immediate decision and go with it, so our files don't get brushed to the side or mixed with those who already have acceptances....

Hello. Are there any medical supplies that we will be using first two years? My grandparents are willing to pay for any supplies i may need while they are in town 🙂

I understand your frustration, but I think that poster is in a logical situation and wishes to go to AZCOM, despite sitting on Touro-NV's acceptance. I already know of some people on SDN and in real life who are sitting on AZCOM acceptances while waiting for another location.

It's one thing to know where you want to go and getting accepted there while sitting on other acceptances too, but AZCOM is a backup to several acceptances and that's just how it goes.

That is why I say to hold out until June. Do what you can now, but once people are forced to make a decision, the flood gates open and the calls go out, seemingly at once.

I wish you all the best of luck, especially those who are on AZCOM's waitlist and here is your one and only. Please keep in touch and let us know what happens.

Not necessarily. Around March 8th, somebody was told that the class was lacking 50-60 students, and that 100 more people would likely be admitted to fill those seats. Plus, they will admit additional people over the 250 class "limit" as last year's class was 254. So, there's still a good shot that if you do well in the interview you can get in without ever touching the wait-list. :0)

Does anyone know what the choices are for the "views" at San Lagos? I'm filling out the priority waitlist application and it's asking what view I would prefer. I know "lake" is probably an option, but what are the others? Anyone have recommendations, seeing as I've never been to the place? Thanks!

San Lagos has a central lake that you can see takes up the majority of the center of the complex. If possible, I would choose that, but ask them to put you near 59th street so you can cut across if you want to walk to campus.

If you plan to drive to school, I would get the pool view because it is closer to the gates, administration and the gym.

If you can't choose where on the lake you'll live, I wouldn't do it because they could put you deep in the heart of the complex, far away from everything.

Make sure to tell them you're a student and they will probably be nice to you. My apartment was right on 59th so I could just cross the street and I was already there.

Hi everyone,

I was wondering how many questions the interviewers asked. Also, how long did the panel spend asking you questions, and how long did you spend asking questions to the panel at the end? Thanks!

It's all highly dependent on the panel you get. The interviews are all slated to take 25-30 minutes, though some run a bit longer or shorter. With my panel, I was interviewed by them for about twenty minutes, then they left about five minutes or so for me to ask questions. Best of luck to you!

My interview was really tightly scheduled. The panel told me from the start that they would take 20 minutes to ask me questions and I would get 5 minutes to ask them questions afterwards. The interview was over almost exactly 25 minutes later. It was like clockwork.
If you still have questions about the interview process, specific questions they asked, time of interview, etc. you should check out AZCOM in the interview feedback section. It's a great resource!

Five minutes to ask questions?! I never know what to say when they ask if I have any questions! I feel like any questions I have I hunt down the answers on the website, or I will have a chance to ask students during the day... What did you ask?

I asked a question about how DO students could utilize the MWU clinic and how involved students were with community education programs, and flat-out told them all of my other questions had already been answered.

It is highly recommended you ask questions and not just any questions either. This should be part of your research and preparation for the interview.

If anything, just ask the interviewers something about themselves, like how did they make their way to AZCOM or what brought them to AZCOM. That's 1 question for each interviewer and it should easily fill up the 5+ minutes they give you.

So I finally interview next monday and I was wondering what the girls wore to the interviews you guys were at? Is it a full suit with a jacket and pumps? Or is a nice shirt and dress pants ok?

I recall that most of the girls interviewing for the DO program when I interviewed were in some variation of a suit.

In all three interviews I had, I always had at least one question pop into my head during the course of the interview. May not happen in your case, but I'd always keep my ears open.

I attended 5 interviews, and I'd say 95% of the girls wore suits. Some were pants suits, and some were skirt suits, but I'd say you're going to feel underdressed in anything less! I saw some girls pull off business-like dresses, personally, I don't think I could have pulled it off! Good luck!

Just wanted to let all the waitlisted people know that I'll be withdrawing as soon as I know my grades for this semester, so I wish you all luck

Congrats on your decision. I hope those past pms and posts helped and I wish you the best at Touro.

I am interviewing at AZCOM next Friday and am wondering about details on logistics. I received a reminder from the admissions office but nothing about a schedule/agenda or directions. Has anyone else received this info?

Thanks for all your help with all my questions! I think I would be happy at either school, but a decision had to be made either way 🙂 lol

I don't remember the precise time frame for everything when I interviewed at the end of January (if you just have to know, pm me and I'll make the effort to crack open the folder and give you the exact time frames we had), but essentially the start of the morning, they'll say "hello" and do a quick presentation over financial aid and about why AZCOM is so wonderful and you should go there, etc. Then, they'll have the interviewees split into two groups. One group will go on a walking tour, the other group will sit around and wait to be interviewed (there is a lot of waiting throughout the day, best to just talk to your fellow interviewees [as they may soon be your classmates] and any current students that stop by). When all of the first interviewing group is finished interviewing, they'll go on the walking tour and the second group will interview. When that's all done (a bit before noon for us), you go have lunch at the cafeteria (they'll give you a voucher for $9 or something like that), then they take you on a driving tour to go by the MWU Clinic and campus apartments, and you're essentially done for the day. The day was scheduled to be over by around 2:45 I think, and we were done by about 1:30.

Thanks for the advice on what to wear. I'm so excited for this to be done, I've been waiting forever! 🙂

Thank you guys for your responses! I was also wondering how many people are placed on the waitlist and how many of them get accepted? Also, when do they start pulling people off of the waitlist? Thank you, I really appreciate it!

No clue x 2, and my understanding with the waitlist is whenever they've interviewed everybody, they'll start pulling people in whenever those with acceptances start declining, all the way up to just before orientation (so, no set date/time).

The number of individuals on the waitlist are merely speculation at this point. From my experience, AZCOM accepts a small amount above the class size (beyond the allotted 8%) and has a moderately large waitlist (~100) but again, every year is different.

They can pull you off the waitlist at any time up until the first day of classes. Most of my SMP friends who were on it were taken off end June/beginning July. Again, each year is different, especially now that the SMP has been expanded (which will add to the waitlist pool before the general application pool).

In the end, you can never really know what is going to happen, so just keep in touch with admissions and wait it out. Good luck though.

I am interviewing at AZCOM on April 15. I really want to attend this school and would appreciate any advice about interviewing here. Any weird questions you got asked or even standard questions would be great.

Thanks!

You are promised "Why Medicine? Why DO? Why AZCOM?" nearly right out of the gates. I highly recommend you read the interview feedback, several of the questions listed there were fielded by myself or others that interviewed when I did (the most prominent one tended to be some variation of "which three people would you invite to dinner and why?"). You'll also want to brush up on your primary and secondary apps (particularly your resume). From there, it really boils down to which interview panel you're assigned and the nature of your application information (if you have anything somewhat out of the ordinary listed [such as in my case, being a history major], they may very well ask you about it). I fielded a lot of ethical questions, while others fielded more application-specific, etc.

The interview itself is really relaxed for the school's part (most of the stress is just inherent of the process and self-induced). As I was being led to the interview room, one of my interviewers reassured me that they weren't looking for correct answers, rather, how the questions are answered. Best suggestion I can offer about ethicals is just think real quick about what you're asked, give a justifiable answer, and stick with it. Hope this helps and best of luck!

Thanks! Where can i find the interview feedback?

Done done done! So relieved to have the interview over!! I'm scared to say that I think it went well because they're so nice that I think everyone feels like it went well.
FYI for people who are still interviewing, apparently there are still about 20-15% of spots open. If you consider that there are ~250 spots then thats not too bad.
Also read the interview feedback FOR SURE!!
Apparently I should know if I'm in by next Friday but maybe as early as Wednesday (that's my birthday 🙂 ) Wish me luck 🙂

Good luck for your interview on thursday!!

Glad to hear it went well, let us know how it turns out.

I'm preparing for my interview this Friday the 16th and I had a thought...a lot of my values largely correspond with the democratic party, am I gonna step on any toes in Arizona? With the state being mostly Republican, and McCain bring from AZ, and the recent healthcare controversy, will I turn them off if I seem to liberal?

Specifically, I was thinking about a political figure I might invite to dinner, and I was thinking about how inspired I was by Obama, etc....is this a bad idea?

I wouldn't worry about it. For a question like that, the politics isn't the issue but rather if you've put thought into it and give a answer that better describes you.

Heck, for two of my interviews I answered questions that more that likely tipped my political affiliations to the interviewers and I received an acceptance for both. As long as you're not dogmatic about being a liberal, you should be okay.
