AZCOM Discussion Thread 2010-2011

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hi everyone,
I just want to extend my congrats to the 2015er's! I'm currently a MS III and I remember what it was like to be in your shoes just a short time ago. I know everyone is very excited about what is to come and probably has lots of questions! Feel free to PM me or post them in the forum and I'll try to get them answered (I'm heading into 8 weeks of surgery, so it may take me a few days to get back to you).

As far as rotational regions, just go with where you want to live. All regions are designed to have an equal education with the others. The MS III year is all about "getting your feet wet" clinically and won't make or break your career. As a part of the 2012 student council, I have been able to hear the students’ feedback regarding rotations and overall, my class has been satisfied with their rotation experiences.

One last thing, I would encourage you all to flip through the AZCOM 2013 and AZCOM 2014 class pages on SDN. There are a lot of FAQ's that have been previously answered in those forums.

Good luck and congrats again!

I'll be in Glendale on the 19th for my Oct. 20th interview 🙂 Anyone else interviewing that day?

I'll be arriving on 10/19 about 4pm for interview on 10/20. Anyone want to get together for an early-ish dinner?

I just withdrew my application to AZCOM, along with my interview on November 5. FYI in case anyone wants to grab that date.

So... Does anyone know if you really need to wait 2-3 weeks for an inkling of whether or not you've been accepted? Or, like most schools do they tell you that so your not calling every minute of the day? If I interviewed on Monday, is there a possibility I could find out on Friday?

Does anyone know if we are supposed to send thank you notes or emails to our interviewers?

it's the polite thing to do, also gives you a chance to say stuff that you may not have had a chance to in the interview and helps them remember who you are.

Long-story short: yes, it is possible and it happens fairly-often.
Reality: Don't call too much because that's definitely one reason why they tell people that (also, things come up and it might take the ADCOM longer to reach your application), but it is okay to call perhaps a week or two post-interview. Also, you may find that people that interviewed with or after you receive acceptances sooner. Don't freak out. This happens. A number of people are accepted after others that interviewed with them or after them have already been accepted.

Thanks! And yeah I wasn't going to start calling.. Just wondering if starting Friday I can obsessively start checking the portal =)

Great thanks! -Email or card, I am leaning more towards card.

Does anyone who interviewed on 10/15 remember what the date was that they said acceptances should be out was? I think they said they have another week of interviews first.

I interviewed on the 18th and they said 2-3 weeks.. HOWEVER, I believe they have interviews until Wednesday and then the admission committee meets Thursday or Friday. But this is just from looking at past interview times/acceptances

Hey guys my name is Cody and I am the AZCOM 2014 Class President. I wanted to say congrats to those of you that have been accepted, that is awesome! To those of you that haven't been accepted yet don't give up hope. I interviewed in late January and got accepted so getting an early interview doesn't mean that much in retrospect, what matters most is your actual interview. So far from the questions/threads that I've read my classmates, randomusername and umm, were spot on about our school. But if you have any questions you would like to direct to me personally please feel free to pm me (about classes, schedules, rotations, general campus stuff, etc). If any of you want to meet with me after your interviews if you would like to talk about whatever just pm me, because I know that would have helped me tremendously. Anyway, back to biochem. Good luck!

I'm waiting for someone to say they got accepted in our cycle so I know I can go look or call! =)

I'm not at that stage yet, but I'm getting there haha... I got my money on Monday or Tuesday. What do you guys think?

I agree.. but I'm secretly hoping tomorrow!

I would be hoping for tomorrow but I just sent my thank you cards out today and I guess I would like them to have those first and then decide 🙂 But I am sure that's not going to sway their decision so tomrrow would be nice!

ah I sent out emails... but from what I've heard is that they send their recommendation the day after and are not actually part of the adcom

Hey guys,

I interviewed on the 19th. No phone call or notice, but my portal has an "Accepted Student" agreement checklist. I'm assuming this is good news. Just FYI for anyone else who interviwed Tuesday. I LOVE this school 🙂.

when did it change?!

If it means that you are accepted when the accepted student checklist becomes available, then I just made it in too.

But the matriculation agreement isn't available and it says that it is currently being processed.

Sounds like a lot of people from the past two weeks got in.

Yep.

Congrats everybody. 👍
And to those of you who have recently interviewed but still haven't found anything out yet, don't get disheartened, a number of people get accepted within a few weeks of others they interviewed with (or before) getting accepted.

Well, seeing as I have been accepted to the school before, I'm pretty confident...
Just think about it, if you weren't accepted, why on earth would your portal change to give you an accepted student checklist?
Probably within a few days the matriculation agreement and deposit portions will update also.
Trust me, you're in. Enjoy it and be happy. 👍

Wow, talk about fast turn over. I interviewed YESTERDAY and checked the portal today and saw my AZCOM accepted student checklist. I wish all schools were this fast!! I have still yet to hear from NSU and I interviewed there 2 weeks ago.

Same here- I interviewed on the 20th and got my decision on the 21st. 'Tis a wonderful thing. First acceptance out of what I hope shall be many- and at such a cool (as in nifty, not temperature) place nonetheless.

Now, I heard in interview land that we'd get notification of our 3rd year rotation sites with our acceptance. Anyone know where that info is found? Do we have to waits for the official letter?

it comes with your acceptance letter. you get a list of regions and you rank your top 3

AZCOM gets major points for their turnaround time w/acceptances! 24 hours after getting home from the interview 😱 ...why can't other schools be like that?!? Has anyone gotten into both CCOM and AZCOM? Both are great schools...are there current AZCOM students that have any input/advice?

Depends on what kind of input/advice you're wanting? If you get into both which one to go to or what?

Well I have my own list of pros and cons for each, but it would be great to hear what other people have to say, especially students that are at AZCOM right now.

Find the four big posts by myself and Flushot. These touch on pros, cons, the area, and the class dynamics from my MS1/2014 perspective and Flushot's MSII/2013 perspective.

Altogether though, I feel like the general consensus between my classmates and I is that AZCOM is tough, but the faculty are great and everything seems to be pretty-fairly run.

Is anyone thinking about the military?

Accepted applicant checklist popped up! Good day...CCOM checklist became available this morning, too.

And yeah, I'm considering military. I am just waiting for the Navy and Army recruiters to contact me.
