Ok, so I'm a non trad, if you want my stats check predents. this was my semester: 16 credits

BioII with lab A, A
Biochem B-
Public Health A
Medical Term A
Human Nutrition and disease A

I had a really rough start in college, and a MAJOR upward trend. What I am worried about is this B- in biochem. I mean I am freaking PROUD of this grade because the class was crazy! This has been the lowest grade I've earned in 2 years. Do you think adcoms will look and understand that it was biochem and give me a bit of a break? If I had a great record in the past I would not be too worried about this matter. Just let me know what you guys think and btw, what did you guys get in biochem?

If a B- is the lowest grade you've gotten in two years, you're in VERY good shape, especially seeing your other grades. You're right about being proud of that, I was HAPPY to get a C in that class because my teacher was a total nightmare.

I wouldn't be worried at all, you've done well, and good luck!

I see you are from USF, did you have Harmon? I don't think a B- is the end of the world. How far does this pull down your OGPA? SGPA? Dude at the end of the day, what's done is done and you worked hard. I think your GPA is good enough to not be in the "no way" pile. Not quite solid, but not a deal breaker. Use this as motivation to work harder than 4.0'ers that rely on their GPA to get them in dental school. When are you taking the DAT? Apply early.

B-?? You're in really bad shape. You'll probably need to choose a new profession. A dental hygiene program might tolerate a grade of B-, but not even the lowliest dental school will look at your application now. If you don't get into a dental hygiene program, you could be a dental assistant and work your way up, perhaps get a Masters or PhD to make up for that grade. Man, you really have an uphill battle... good luck... you're going to need it...

look at how sarcastic you are, good job. Look, I like how you said that no dental schools would look at me. That was funny, then you even told me I should change my profesion. I get that haha. Because it's like, it's like a step down. Haha, you're good. You even sugested that I get a PHD because of the B- haha, aww, you're witty.

Yeah, I had Harmon... It seemed like the first two tests were easy then the rest was random bs. There is a total war going on the db on myusf. Like I said before, I really don't mind getting the B-, I just want to show the adcoms solid improvement. I'm taking the dat 2nd week of July. It really does not bring anything down much. My predents is not really updated. My gpa is cgpa is like a 3.4ish now and my science gpa around a 3.6. When I first started school I only took a class a semester and would get a C or B. I've only been going full time for 2 years and my first b- in a science class.

Your stats are good and your life experiences will make you stand out. You will be fine.

Yeah i mean, I heard her class was a joke. But that was at the beginning of the semester. What's the war going on? Are people yelling about their grade on the discussion board? I am really interested because I was hoping to get her, since she was supposed to be easy. As for you, You are not in bad shape, a 3.6 is really good for dental sgpa. keep your head in the game. You are almost there!

I heard she will not be teaching it anymore. She's a really nice lady. Yeah, first two exams were cake. The last three were crazy.. Third one was iffy. The forth exam was just wacked. Crazy calculations that we were not exposed to, minute detail that we were told to ignore, and their wording was all jacked up. The final was full of mistakes so everyone is freaking out on blackboard.
The toughest part about the class is that she tests you on 300 to 400 ppts (not that bad), and sometimes they contridict the book. Another thing is that between the prof, ta and the class, there was a lack of communication so everyone was one different levels. Overall though, I expected biochem to be a really tough class. I enjoyed the battle, but I am so glad it's over.
If I could give you any advise it would be to know everything inside and out, and make sure you fully understand concepts, what's going on during certain reactions, read each question 3 times to be sure you understand what you're being asked. I know I'm making it sound bad, but it is doable. Best of luck to you my friend.

Thank you for sharing that. I am going to PM you about another professor for Micro.
Thank you for your help, it helps me out a lot!

What's up with people freaking out about grades? Was this question meant to be rhetorical?? I mean come on! The average GPA is around 3.6, which means that almost everyone had made ABOUT half B's anyways....geesh....just think about it.

r u serious? b-!? i got a c in biochem and i am not complaining.

here

american gov- C

English II - C

Intro to communications- C

ancient art- C

Collage algbra- C

This is what I am trying to recover from. I took each one of these classes by themselves my first year and a half in college at a cc. I had a rough start so I am trying to make up for a lot. What I was getting at is that I am trying to show the adcoms a solid upward trend. I was wanting to know if a B- would screw my upward trend up in the eyes of the adcoms. Like I said I am not crying about the B- I am so proud of the grade becuase biochem is hard!

Like the other people on this thread have said, the B- in biochem will not stop you from going to dental school. Just keep getting A's, study for the DAT and you should be fine. Remember to relax once in awhile, stressing out over this won't help you in the long term.

Hey at least you guys are done with biochem! I have to take the final in like 1 week and a few days while trying to recover from minor case of the swine flu. I'm like probably about average now on my exams too. What's worse, I'm getting A's in all my classes, I haven't gotten lower than a 3.7 in 3 years, and my final acceptance into UCSF depends on how I do this semester. FML!!

Wow what an idiot!!! who gets a B- in biochem??? <--- Sarcasm Don't worry about it i think i had like 5 Cs on my trascripts and multiple B-s. I still got in. I only had a 3.3 GPA too.... but then again i did go to a good school... but i wouldn't stress too much. BTW i know for a fact i got a C+ in undergrad, and an A in Biochem in Dental school... so just goes to show sometimes undergrad is harder then D school

My friend who is a dentist said that his biochem in undergrad was a lot harder than in D-school too. I think that might be because they are not trying to weed you out??

Getting a B- in biochemistry wont keep you out of dental school man.
The fact that you are too slow to realize that a B is a good grade might though.

This sounds like somebody else that needs attention
