Hi everyone! Is anyone in a 6/7/8 year BA/MD program where you are guaranteed admission into the school's medical school after 3 or 4 years of undergrad? I am in my school's program and would like to meet some people in the same boat as me from other schools 🙂

One of the public universities in my state (Virginia Commonwealth University) has an honors undergraduate college. If admitted to that as a freshman and if you take certain courses earning a GPA > 3.5 and MCAT > 26, you are guaranteed a spot in VCU/Medical College of Virginia (M.D. program).

Awesome! I'm in the 7-year program at Florida Atlantic University, also a freshman. Is yours binding or nonbinding? Mine is binding (as in I'm not allowed to apply to any other medical schools "without permission of the medical school"). What are your requirements to go into medical school? I need a 3.5 for each semester and cumulative 3.5 in the sciences, plus a 29 MCAT and "medical experience" each semester and during the summer.

I think it's non-binding, but if you apply out you automatically lose your seat. But I'm staying here because PLME was my first choice!

My requirements are not many. We can major in whatever we want. We just have to take the basic pre-reqs. Brown also doesn't calculate GPA, so no GPA requirement. However, the med school reviews our grades every semester, and if they do not see "superior academic performance" we could be put on probation. no MCAT either.

What do you plan on doing this summer? I want to do some public health research (since that is my major), but I was late to apply to paid research programs. Will hopefully end up staying at Brown doing research without pay, which I guess is okay for my freshman year.

I'm planning on staying at my college too because it is only a half hour drive from my home! It's awesome that you don't have to take any MCATs, I'm super jealous lol. Researching sounds great. I have been shadowing doctors during the school year, but during the summer, I'd like to be a pharm tech at a local pharmacy so I can learn about the different medications before I get to medical school (and it's paid!). How many students are in your program? My program is pretty new, so they have accepted 4 for the first year, 5 for the second year, and 6 for my current year.

So you planning on staying on campus in a dorm? or just in an apartment somewhere off campus?

Oh, at home! I could commute to my campus because it's so close to home. How far away is Brown from you?

Like 8 hours lol. So does that mean you are going to commute 1.5 hours to and from every day?

Yes, it's just an hour drive total each day, which isn't terrible. It must be difficult to live so far from home!
