Which one would look better to dental school, a BA or BS in Biology?...or does it even matter?

honestly, i think it doesn't matter...i have a feelin git's a straight numbers game.

i'm getting a BA in bio when i graduate and i've pulled 3 interviews so far.

BS because its slightly harder. But it really shouldnt make a difference. It's not going to be the factor that keeps you out of dental school.

it depends on your school. i got a BA, i didn't have a choice the school i went to only gives out BAs- well technically ABs. I don't think my program was any easier than getting a BS at another school. i don't think adcoms are gonna look so much at your degree but maybe where you graduated from. if you have a choice between BA and BS i'd talk to someone at your school (possibly a preprofessional advisor).

Haha...bachelor of fine arts

So...I guess asking whether a BA or BS makes any difference is like asking to compare DDS and DMD

I guess it makes a little difference when you apply to residency. In fact, I was told every little thing counts. To dental schools? Heck you don't even need a degree to be accepted to 90% of schools.

For personal satisfaction purpose though, BS hands down.

The only real difference is that the BA is a more slightly liberal arts based degree, but can still be scientific...the BS is for more scientific based fields. None is really better than the other...I'm getting the BS because UF only offers the BS in Biochemistry.

Here is my own opinion and experience as a chemistry major.

At my school one can choose either B.A. or B.S. to graduate. 90% of the undergrad senior class just got out with B.A.'s. Those who want a B.S. have to do some more course work than the average Joe, including 2 semesters of Computer Science Programming, Calculus I & II, 3 more advanced graduate-level chemistry courses, 1 extra course called "the Contemporary Chemist", and 1 full year of independent research in chem professor's lab. I choose to do B.S. because it just looks a little funny to me to get on my diploma a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry major. Of course, most others would say I am totally wrong.

But I think for research-emphasized dental schools like Columbia and Harvard, having a B.S. matters a little bit - if the two applicants have otherwise very similar statistics.

well...I am leaning toward a BA in Microbiology right now because I am trying to fit in a minor in Chinese and graduate in 4 years.

I think you shoul follow whatever degree plan that more benefits for you. I'm getting a BA in bio also. I have minor in Business and BA will count all the courses that I took from college of business toward my BA. I enjoy my plan. Btw, I went to one interview so far. No one asked me about that. Dont worry. Do well 🙂
