It makes absolutely no difference!

People get into Pharmacy schools with everything from BAs in Psychology to BSs in Finance.

The only thing a BS in a science can do for you that the other degrees don't is perhaps knock out some pre-requisites that folks like me, with BAs in fields other than "hard sciences, have to take fresh.

Most schools don't require a B anything. I have a BA in English. It just makes it harder to get all the science since that becomes the bulk of your elective load. If you're looking at one of the schools that does *require* a bachelor's degree, ask the school. It shouldn't make a difference.

As others are saying, it shouldn't matter for most schools. However, while talking to the chair of our chemistry department today he stated that he didn't like the chem BA since the people that get it tend to have trouble finding work in the field if their med/pharm/etc school plans never quite come true. Most outfits in the chemical industry are looking for BS grads.

Worth thinking about, I'd guess.

Typically no... I am sure there is probably one exception out there though - Contact the school in question to know for sure.

It matters where he applies, especially in state like CA where 99.9% of accepted students have a Bachelor degree prior to matriculation. I'm curious though if CA is the only state who has this kind of statistic? Seems like you have no chance of getting in without a Bachelor degree in CA, and yes this even includes the new private schools in CA, not just the UC one.

Could be because schools here in CA do not require the PCAT. I don't think there is a single pharmacy school in CA that doesn't "highly encourage" or flat out require having a Bachelor's degree before applying.

Ca does not distinguish between BA and BS, in this regard, to my knowledge - which is what the OP is asking... This is not a "Should I get a 4 yr degree" question... It's a "Which 4 yr degree"
