hi every body
I'm new in this forum, and I really need an advice.
I'm 31 years old and I would like to start my dental carrier, but I have couple question for the people who can help, can I have a BS degree within 2 years?I donot want to take 4 years because I'm not young. is it possible ??? if I do so what are my chances to get in to dental school?? is it very competitive???
do u think it is too late because I'm 31 year old???
my wife will finish her dental school next year , can she recommend me to her school???
sorry for the long email, I'm very worried, and any advice from experienced people will be really really appreciated.
thank you very much

This might answer some of your questions:

Do you have any college experience after HS?

Most degrees require ~128 credits... If you take full course loads, full time, all year round, you might finish in 2.5-3 years, though I've never heard of anyone completing a bachelors that quickly.

But....... if your wife is in dental school, don't you think these questions are better posed to her?

If you have an undergraduate diploma, yes you can!!!
Just find any post-bac program or graduate program and take the pre-req courses.
Two years is enough time to take all pre-req courses again. Good luck.
Life is never late!

thank you for your reply, my wife is in advanced standing program not regularDMD, I have bachelor degree in engineering but from outside USA, so it is not accredited school, that is why I need BS from accredited school .

jexxx 2007, could u please clarify what do u mean by having prereg ?? can I take the prereg only without a full bachelor degree?? is that possible ?
thanks again

Your best chance will probably be to enroll at a 4 year school in the US that will accept many/most of your credits from the foreign institution. That would make it relatively easy to finish your BS (or BA) in 2 years.

thanks emorypredent, do u mean that my degree BS from outside USA , can ba transferred to BS from accredited US school by making up and adding extra courses and credit?? will dental school accept that? or do they require the full bachelor degree to be fron US school??
thank u

You should definetely ask your wife about the pre-req..it seems that you have no idea what they are...it will take you 3-4 years to complete BS then take DAT...there are some schools that dont require BS but all pre-req that will take you at least two years..and YEA, dental school is VERY competitive..i will be applying for the third time..

If the undergraduate school you go to is willing to accept those classes and you take all the required pre-dental classes from that US undergrad school (chemistry, physics, English, etc.), then you should be fine for dental school if you have 2 full years of classes from the US school and your degree is issued from that school.

The tricky part will be finding an undergraduate school that will take your classes, but I think it's doable.

The other option would be like someone else said, to start over and overload on classes every semester and take summer classes to graduate early, but that will be rough.

Also, being a permanent resident/US citizen before matriculating/applying to dental schools will improve your chances as many dental schools do not consider foreign students.
