Im looking for information regarding Counseling Programs.

I'm interested in Therapy/Mental Health (Counseling Individuals/Families) and want to pursue the best Bachelor Degree option then continuing on to a MA. (I know that there are MA programs at Universities in my area)

Can anyone give me some information on a bachelor degree best suited for Counseling ?

I originally though of pursuing a Psychology route, but realized that I would have to get my PhD or PsyEd to counsel/do therapy.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks 🙂

Counseling degrees are pretty much non-existent at the BA/BS level. If you want to be a Masters-level therapist/counselor, your best bet would be bachelors degree in psychology followed by an MA/MS in Counseling and then licensure as an LPC/LCPC/whatever your state calls them. Alternately, you could get a BSW and/or BA in psychology and then get an MSW and move to licensure as an LCSW.

PS. It's "PsyD", not "PsyEd." Just FYI. 🙂

Thanks for the info. I really appreciate it. From reading other info on here...it looks like there are other options....thanks again.
