Hey Guys!

So I was an idiot my freshman year of undergrad and got an MIP (minor in possession of alcohol). I did diversion, wasn't convicted, and didn't even go through the court system. On the AMCAS application there is a section asking if you have ever been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor.. and I haven't. But when a background check is done supposedly the MIP will be seen but labeled as dismissed. Should I still say something about it on the ap? Or just leave it blank because I was never actually convicted?

Thanks for the input.

I would try a couple things. If you had a lawyer help you get diversion, ask him/her. The question is whether or not your record was expunged after diversion. Another option is to look up your records or run a state-commissioned background check on yourself.

just get it expunged.

If you completed your diversion and the courts signed off on it, you're fine. You don't have to report it on AMCAS, but it'll show up once you complete a background check at schools you're accepted to, though it very likely will not matter in the slightest. Don't worry about mentioning it prior to the background check.

Some secondary applications will ask if you have ever been charged for a misdemeanor or felony without a conviction.. I would absolutely mention it on those.
