I heard that the American Bar Association does a background check on each person before taking the state bar (law school). Does anyone know if a background check is performed on each student before taking the board exam?

Was perusing my school's admissions site today (for what reason, i dont know), and there was a section that said all students were subject to a criminal background check before matriculating.... wouldn't be surprised if most schools did the same.

State boards would do the same before granting licensure, which would be after passing all 3 USMLE Steps.

During my interviews we were told that new JCAHO regulations make it pretty much standard for all med students to get background checks before matriculating. This will be the first year for it at KU.
