While searching for jobs, I saw a position that I really liked; it was posted by a recruitment firm, so I went ahead and I e-mailed the contact person expressing my interest and submitting my resume; the recruiter contacted me, gave me details about that position, we talked about other similar positions and so on. So far, seemed to be off to a good start with them. Time passes by, we e-mailed back and forth, talked over the phone a couple of times, they told me that they sent my CV over there and that the palce asked for my references, and I was hoping for an interview. Time went by and the recruiter kept telling me that that client moves a little slowly, but they are working on it. One day, I suggested the recruiter that maybe it would be a good idea for me to e-mail the hospital, and she had nothing against it. Well, to make a long story short, I get in touch with the physician recruiter from that hospital, and she tells me not only that there is no positon, but that she had no idea who I was, had received no CV, and had not asked for any references..... I call the recruitment firm to find out what's going on, I only make it to the voicemail, and I haven't heard back from them since then.... Well, what do you make of this? It is so unbelievably frustrating!

So, to all of you out there looking for jobs, please beware of the recruitment firms!

They now have your CV. Anybody that they send the to will have to pay the recruiting firm a fee if they want to hire you. Send them a certified letter that you keep a copy of instructing them not to send your CV out to anyone without your express prior authorization.

Best advice is to NEVER use a recruiting firm.

Recruiting firms will typically make around $25,000 for placing a board certified doc into a full time position. This makes that candidate less appealing to potential employers.

I'd report him to whatever website posted the add. If you could get him banned from gaswork for example, that'd make him regret f'ing with you.

I'd also like to advise against using a recruiter. I am sure there are "success" stories out there, but to me, it just means you're not willing to put the work out there in finding your own job. I had this one a**hole call me everyday for maybe 2 months with the same message. I had spoken to someone else in his office earlier and told him to take me off their calling list. They'll lie to you and try to entice you with great, non-existent jobs and then try to place you into other less appealing jobs. Definitely BEWARE.

I haven't had good luck with recruiting firms either. For example there was a job advertised through a firm about which I heard nothing from after talking to the recruiter. Few months later I find out said hospital has been desperately looking for candidates. I never heard a word while using the recruiter.

The thought of having a Dbag with a high school degree making good matches for me is disturbing.

Thank you for your replies and your advice. Now I know better, and would definitely not use a recruitment firm again.

A.

Interesting that so many people have bad experiences with recruiting firms. I have some friends and family with corporate gigs in jobs where using recruiters and headhunters is par for the course and often results in good job moves. Guess medicine is a different animal.

Most headhunters/recruiters in business are retained search firms, where the client pays a fee up front for a thorough, nationwide search. This only occurs in medicine at the highest levels. Most of the firms you see in anes are contingency firms that bottom feed and send out blind CV's hoping for a response. Worse than useless, since they poison you with the employer. In 20+ years of running practices, we have never seen anyone of quality from a contingency firm and never use contingency firms.
