I ended up getting a C+ in Biochemistry 1.
I heard from a the wife of a doctor who is on the board of admissions for Howard University that they like to see that the students who apply have As in their science courses..
they are favorable to those students

So she seemed to suggest I take a biochem course again..I don't want to take Biochemistry 1 again but I was thinking of maybe taking Biochem 2 or Biochem 3 and work towards getting an A in one of those courses.

Do you guys think that will help bad grade in Biochem 1? Like show them that I can handle Biochem?
If so should I take Biochem 2 or Biochem 3?

I heard Biochem 2 is like organic, while Biochem 3 is like all about DNA

I think taking Biochem 2 and getting a better grade in that would be better than retaking the first class. Of course they prefer As...no one is going to prefer Cs and Bs but that doesn't mean that it will be detrimental to your application.

Get As in both of them (assuming that works for your degree plan). Yeah, retaking 1 and getting an A would be nice, but it won't replace it for your GPA calculation unless you're applying DO. An upward trend, however, is looked upon favorably.

It seems to be the theme on this board that "I got a C, is my medical career doomed??"

A)To answer your question, no
B) Chill
C) Figure out why you got a C, and fix it. Go see your school's education specialist or learning center to help with study habits, time mgt, etc.

All courses you took need to be reported, regardless of whether your school will allow for one substituting for the other. With this in mind, if you hated it before, do you really want to continue?

I agree with Goro. Before you take Biochem 2 or 3, it's important to identify the factor or factors that led to the C+ grade. In my experience advising premedical students, few students take this important step. We're not always the best judge of what's holding us back from a better performance. Fortunately, educational specialists are available at universities, and I would encourage you to meet with one.

Best of luck.
