i have a problem. My undergrad gpa was 3.0. I just finished a one year program in cytology. I have a 3.56 gpa from that program and i have one bad grade (D) in intro to pathology. do you guys think this will keep me from getting in?

No, your post GPA is still somewhat high, it might raise an eyebrow, but as long as you don't have horrible DAT's, it won't make too much of a difference. Though of course it would be better if you didn't have it... but stuff happens. I had 2 D's on my transcripts.

Don't stress too much, and good luck!

did you get d's in undergrad or grad-school? How did you overcome your situation?

Probably not, since it wasn't a prerequisite class. But I am assuming that you did the cytology program to prove that you could handle graduate-level science classes, right? If you haven't already, you might want to consider studying your butt off so you can pass the cytology licensing exam, if there is one. That way you can show that you really can master the material. It's not like dentists have to diagnose disease on a cellular level, but the visual skills that allow you to do this should be there.

I'm not trying to be mean, by the way. I have a 3.0 and got a D in Biochem (a prerequisite class) and did not get accepted last year. I'm starting a 2-year master's program in cytopathology in a week. I think I will enjoy being a cytotechnologist, but obviously I'm still visiting the pre-dental board, so who knows...? Ultimately, if I got a D in my program, not only would I not be able to move on to the next semester, but since I'm really out to prove myself, I would feel like I still hadn't achieved that.

BillytheEchidna i kind of agree with what you said about getting the bad grade and that's why i have my doubts...The best thing i can do right now is study for the DATs and do really well. Thanks for the reply!
