Hello! I am currently finishing up my junior year and will applying to dental school summer of 2016.
I have decided to take a year off because I discovered my love for dentistry a little late into my undergraduate degree and I just want to take my time with the application process.
My issue comes with some of my grades, specifically my physics grades. I have received A's in both sections of general biology and general chemistry, B's in both section of organic chemistry, and a B- in the first part of physics and a C- in the second part. My sophomore year was a weak year for my academically. I took both organic chemistry and physics, and was not 100% dedicated to my studies. I went through a period where I was unsure of what I wanted to do and I unfortunately let it affect my grades.
I am planning on retaking the second part of physics again, and I am serious about getting an A. I know this has been asked time and time again, but does that one bad experience academically for me drastically affect my application?
I currently have a 3.65 oGPA and a 3.4 sGPA. I will be spending the summer studying for my DAT to take it at the end of the summer when I know I feel comfortable with it.
Additionally, I have taken some upper level biology courses such as Evolutionary biology, genetics, cellular biology, and microbiology and received A's in them.
Thanks for any help!

I got a B- in physics I and a C in physics II. I was not interested in those classes at the time. I ended up with a 3.72 oGPA and 3.46 sGPA. That's not unlike your situation. Do as well as you can on the DAT to make up for the hiccups on your transcript. Schools will notice those grades but they by no means count you out. The good grades in the upper level biology will probably offset the physics somewhat. Bio is more important to dentistry anyway.

Good luck!
