Hi everyone first time poster. I have a terrible SAT score (like 1040s) and dropped out of college after one semester 2 years ago. I recently decided I want to be a doctor ( I bet you've all heard this before). If I retake the SAT and also get a good GPA in school, Do I have any chance of getting into a good med school ? I know I know DAFS but, I wanted to say hi anyway.

no one cares what your SAT score was- just do well in college and get a good MCAT score- you have to finish college though before it's even an option so one step at a time i guess

Thanks, I have a case of the pre-premed jitters I guess. I sound like Bob Wiley. I'm going to go take my fish for a walk.

Just do well in college get a 3.5 3.6 Science GPA and 30+ MCAT then you are set. They won't bug you about SAT, even if they do you can just come back and said look at my MCAT and college GPA.

Do well on the MCAT and classes. You'll be set. Oh and get some clinical experience and have fun in school.

Yup, what you got on the SAT is totally irrelevant. Just do very well in all your courses, especially the pre-med requirements (bio, chem, o-chem and physics) and rock out on the MCAT and you will be a good candidate for MD schools. Look to the future. The SAT is h.i.s.t.o.r.y.

You also want to get some volunteeer experience, clinical experience, shadow some docs and do some sort of leadership activities. Poke around some more on this forum. There's lots of good information about all these things.

Thanks SDNers I feel much better now.

yeah the sat/act has nothing to do with medical school admissions.

I think you should focus on school; don't want to drop out again. Try to put more time aside studying and doing homework.

Do med schools see the SAT score?

I think some of them ask for it, but it is not such a big deal

On the applications I've seen it is often listed as optional, as are GRE, GMAT, LSAT scores.

I know Jefferson asks for SAT scores on their secondary. I don't know if any other schools do.

I think Washington University in St. Louis asked SAT scores too. I think there were few others that did ask. I don't think they really make any difference.

Baylor asks for SAT and ACT scores. They also ask for your high school class rank.

I remember a poster saying that some interviewer at Wake Forest said something like 'that is a much to low SAT score for our school'... even know they had a good MCAT score. I guess they just got stuck with an uptight interviewer. But this is probably a one in a million case right here...
