I had a bad start in college due to bad relations with my parents. I was actually kicked out of the house and I had to live on my own.. as a result my GPA was severely affected. Now, I my situation is ok, but my GPA is still not very good, I am up to Ochem now.... my science GPA is probably around 2.8 and overall 2.4.

I had pharmacy experience before and now that I am struggling to raise my GPA I cant handle to do volunteer while working.. any advice.. do i have any hope?!

I'm sorry for your misfortunes. Low GPA's can be a hindrance in being accepted, but if you must apply, make sure you mention your hardships in your personal statement. Aside from having the chance to explain your low GPA's, you might get their attention and may actually make you stand out from the rest of the applicants.

I agree. Definitely try to raise your GPA to at least the minimum that schools require so that your application can at least be looked at. And then in your personal statement or supplemental application essay(s), mention your situation. Give yourself sometime to raise your GPA.
As far as volunteer work goes, maybe once a week or once a month somewhere you enjoy. Even if it's not health related. While it's important for you to focus on your grades right now, volunteering once in a while somewhere will show that adcom that you do have some people contact as well, and you're not just all books all the time. I don't know if I make any sense, but this is just my thought on it. I admire you for wanting to continue to keep up with your goal of becoming a pharmacist. Keep it up and best wishes to you! :luck:

Thanks.. as I read all of the other threads, I cant help but cry about it, becuse almost everyone who got in have a 3.5 and higher. I cant help but feel my future deteriorate in mind. But I will try my best!

Hey, don't worry, you still have a chance- I was kicked out of my house the week of finals when I was taking Org Chem I. I got a C in that class, and most of the others, b/c finals were a huge chunk of the grades. I retook it and a few others and brought the GPA up a little. My GPA was a 3.2 and I'm in 🙂 You'll be ok. I didn't even get interrogated about my GPA in my interview. Just retake everything you messed up in. It's a lot of work, but well worth it!

Hey,

I too experienced some problems like this. You may need to spend a semester (even two or three) retaking classes. Try to make up for it but dont dwell on it because if you do its going to affect your classes that your in now. I know that I will need to spend atleast one semester retaking a few classes but im ok with that 🙂 if you need to talk my email is [email protected]. I have found that talking about it makes you feel a little bit better because you realize that your not alone. Whenever I have a bad test grade or whatever i feel like im the only one but your not the only one trust me!

Hey roseldv82,

Don't fret....you may have to retake a few classes to bring up your GPA, but remember some schools only look at the last grade received for a course so you still have a good shot. Also, some schools only look at the pre-pharm pre-req GPA and not the cumulative. Spend time looking at the websites for various schools you're considering and do the research on these reqs. If possible, go in to see an advisor and take your transcripts with you.

Remember to do well in Ochem! Look at it as an opportunity to prove to them you can do it. If anything, put this experience behind you and keep chugging forward! You can do it!

Good luck!
