My fraternity was in trouble all the time for one thing or another. Mandatory community service was a favorite punishment and comprised most of my volunteer time. Killing 2 birds with one stone.

I would not tag setting up for band practice as "community service" but I would count anything that is outward facing such as "community kitchen". I wouldn't count any band gigs as community service, it really is just part of being in a band... you play at a stadium, you play in a parade, you play in a theme park, etc. That the audience is poor is inconsequential.
