A few discerning pre-meds may have caught Dr. David Gordon (U Michigan Med) and the other ADCOMs mention their use of Barron's college rankings for medical admissions. (Barron's divides all 4 year colleges into tiers: Most Com, High Com, Very Com, Com, No Com). This was said LIVE on the Kaplan insider forum. Take a look and see where your school fits. I created the thread to get this message out to as many of us as possible. Continue on the "prestigious" thread if you wish. Later.

it's almost a sure thing that mine is on the 'no com' list.

guess I'm not gonna be a doctor.

I have a feeling this thread might turn into a giant flame war.

But FWIW, I have heard that, compared to most other schools, UMich is particularly prestige-whorish.

Extremely effective marketing strategy. "Casually" mention certain rankings, books that might improve chances of getting in med schools to a few neurotic pre meds and bam!!! best selling in the market.

Is there a link to a web page/etc that lists the tiers?

I don't have a link to the actual list, but after a little bit of googling I see that there are 75 schools on the "most competitive" list. That seems like a lot for a top tier.
