Bartell Drugs launches Amazon Prime Now online ordering and delivery service

"Two months ago it hired Mark Lyons, a former executive with Washington state health plan Premera Blue Cross, to be a senior manager in its pharmacy benefits, a move first reported by CNBC.

Amazon has been holding an annual meeting on whether it should consider going into the pharmacy business for the last several years, said the CNBC report, citing unnamed sources. "

And all CVS has to do to compete is simply start delivering medication.

Wow, Amazon and it's game changing shake up of the industry.

I'm just wondering why CVS and Walgreens are holding back now. They know the threat is real, but they are in great positions to prevent Amazon from ever succeeding. They are the leaders in their industry and they have everything in place to make things better so people choose them over a company that has never done anything in medicine.

The business model for Walgreens is to make money on prescriptions and everyday items to consumers. If they choose mail order, they will shoot themselves because no one will have a reason to enter their store. Also remember that mail order facilities use 100 percent automation so they are able to out fill any local pharmacy easily.

They are not offering prescription delivery yet, but they are setting themselves up to in the future and this is the first step.
