Bathroom use at work among CVS pharmacists

My supervisor scolded me the other day because i had to run and use the bathroom in the middle of a customer interaction. I had the stomach flu real bad and almost did it in front of the customer!!!!
Nobody told in pharmacy school that a pharmacist should neither use the bathroom nor eat during a 14 hour shift at work. Really, we CVS pharmacists need to ask ourselves what we are doing. Slavery or Healthcare professional!!!!!!
Gosh these supervisors make me mad!!!! i hope they all loose their jobs!!!!😡

Obviously this person went to a 3rd tier pharmacy school that didn't have "How to hold it in 101" class.. which was a pretty competitive class in our school.

My pharmacist actually ran into a similar situation once, it didn't end so nicely for him. An older lady was chatting him up about her Boniva and osteoporosis for about a half hour; he was clenched the entire time. Once the 30 minute-mark rolled around, his cheeks just couldn't take it anymore. I lived pretty close and I'm roughly the same size pants, so it wound up being a relatively easy clean up.

It definitely wasn't CVS' fault, sometimes it's just impossible to break off a terrible conversation.
 
Thats why 4/5 pharmacists recommend the "Retail Slavery" breakfast.

Simply mix 1 scoop of loperamide tablets and a few tsp of atropine into your cereal each morning and BOOM! No more pesky bathroom breaks. Its really that easy!

Add a tablespoon or 2 table salt to retain fluids.
 
Dedicated pharmacist should all wear this while working.

good lord. is it just me or do a bunch of SDN pre-pharmers work with pharmacists without a backbone? or scratch that, a bunch of SDN pharmacists that have no backbone manage to post on here when, boohoooo, they can't stand up for themselves in BATHROOM use??

bathroom has never been an issue no matter how crappy the work environment has been for me...

someone needs to master the, "so what if i used the bathroom (what's wrong with you)" :::shoulder shrug::: line.

All he really had to do was say, "Sorry, I'll be back in 5 minutes."
 
is there something wrong with just telling the customer "excuse me, i have to use the restroom. i will be back to help you in a moment?"

You forgot the part where he told you to "NEVER, EVER REPEAT THIS TO ANYONE, EVER, OR ELSE".

I don't get it. I take care of myself and my employees first. I have to work 10 and 12-hour days as the only pharmacist and it sucks. I darn sure take my breaks and lunches and I make sure my employees do as well. When 1:30 rolls around my techs know its my lunch time and they adjust the wait accordingly. They also know not to bother me while I am eating. I also take at least two 15 minute breaks where I go outside and get some fresh air. If someone calls or comes in my techs tell them I stepped out come back in 15 minutes.

I don't give a crap how long people have to wait. Someone had a great quote on here awhile back. People are satisfied with a 45-minute wait to get pizza delivery yet they expect their prescriptions to be filled in 10 minutes.

I work at the same pace and fill scripts the same way no matter how busy it gets. Its not to slow and not to fast but just right so I do not make mistakes. I do not get stressed out nor do I let people stress me out. I figure its the companys fault for the poor staffing and support. I am not going to suffer for it.

You should see some of the customers we had back then...old ladies would literally line up to see this guy. I don't think they would have been more excited to see Dean Martin handing out Metamucil packets.

i know right...obviously there's pressure "from above" to speed things up or possibly skip on breaks/lunches, but clearly these people complaining simply just cave and don't know how to stand up for themselves. It's like you have to pick a fight either, there are ways to stand your ground without looking confrontational.
 
Since CVS bought Savon, it became Slave-On.

Is there any reason he should respond to this thread. Afterall, since when did any customer service company say you should be able to leave customer interactions mid-conversation to use the bathroom. Granted this is an extreme case where it was obviously necessary and a simple explanation should have sufficed, but then to go down the slippery slope and saying noone at CVS gets bathroom breaks is ludicrous. This has nothing to do with whether or not someone gets bathroom breaks. If had had gone 5 minutes ago he may have still had to go again given the described food poisoning (aka stomach flu). He'd have been better off just going home. Seems to me someone just has a bone to pick.
 
I usually go twice during a 12.5 hour shift.
 
if I have to go to the bathroom, I will leave the pharmacy and go. I don't care if it causes a slight delay in the verification of prescriptions. Unless a guy is having an allergic reaction and needs benadryl and an epi pen stat, I will take a bathroom break. I don't care if management gives me pushback, this is a basic body function and dammit if you gotta go you gotta go.
