I am basically enrolling myself in classes this semester to raise my science gpa. I am thinking of a course that is crosslisted in both the Geology and Biology depts in my school but I think it might show up as Geology on my transcript. The description is...GEOL/BIOL 159 -Prehistoric Life

Fossils and the origin and evolution of life, including micro- and macroevolution, mass extinctions, the evolution of dinosaurs and humans, and scientific perspectives on multicultural creationism. Optional laboratory.

My question is will this be approved as BCPM on my application because I do not want to take it if it won't...Can I call AMCAS and ask? Thoughts? Thank you..

It's pretty much a toss up. If it shows up from the geology dept, I think you got a 50/50 chance of it being bcpm. If it shows up from the biology dept, i don't think you would have a problem.

I know it's based on the primary content of the course regardless of the dept listing, but I doubt the people at AAMC will go through your catalog and read the description to see if your course falls within biology or geology.

The best way to get an answer is to ask people who have applied and have taken that course at your school.

Page 38. Geology is not included in bcmp.

But, you should ask your registrar how this class will be listed on your transcript. Usually you can choose one department listing or the other, to prevent double-counting classes toward a major/minor or whatever. If you can get it on your transcript with only the BIO heading, it should be good.
