At my school, a course is offered titled "Evolution". It has a BIOL heading but is cross-listed as Anthro, Geol, and Hist, but if you sign up for it as a bio class (which I plan to do) it goes on your transcript as BIOL. Would this be BCPM??? I can't find a place for it on the AMCAS BIOL classification below but cannot find anywhere else where it would go more appropriately. It's description is "Topics include the genetic basis of micro- and macro-evolutionary change, the concept of adaptation, natural selection, population dynamics, theories of species formation, principles of phylogenetic inference, biogeography, evolutionary rates, evolutionary convergence, homology, Darwinian medicine, and conceptual and philosophic issues in evolutionary theory." THANKS.

Base your decision on the content of the course, not the designation

If it's listed under bio then it's bio. Also, evolution was on the bio portion of the MCAT, they would have a hard time denying you that one. Everyone at my school had evolution counted in the science GPA.

The second question on the first day of class in BIO 101 was, "What is the basis for understanding biology?" The answer was, "Evolution." So, yeah, it's a bio course.

The first question was, "What is the answer to Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything?" I knew I'd like that class!

I sure hope it is b/c I have it now & I'll be getting an A🙂 But it has to be..it's on the bio section of the MCAT.

So AMCAS wont contest it if it is placed under the general biology section?

Not if it's listed as Biology on your transcript. Now if it said History and you tried to put it, there might be an issue.

thanks for the input. It seems reasonable to put it under general biology, especially if it's on the MCAT.
