I hope this is the right area to post this! I was just wondering if the BCPM gpa includes all biology, chemistry, physics, and math courses taken during undergrad or just the typical, one year of math, physics, general chemistry, organic chemistry, and biology, with their respective lab components?

I'm just asking because i'm a biology major and was wondering if all the biology courses i've taken during my undergrad would be included in this BCPM gpa calculation or just the standard one year of biology with a lab!

Thanks for any and all help you guys can provide me with!🙂

Thanks for the quick reply!! One more question: do biochemistry and microbiology courses count under the bcpm gpa!?

Thanks again for the reply!

yes, all science and math classes will be factored into your bcpm... including biochem and micro =)

Not not all your biological courses may count as defined according to the 2009 AMCAS. If you take a Plant Biology Course will it be under botany or agriculture & horticulture? While Botany is BCPM: agriculture and horticulture are not.

.There are a lot of questions on SDN about BCPM. Below is all the information you will need to distinguish BCPM from non-BCPM. The list is from AMCAS 2009 manual. You can find the full manual for MD schools here: AMCAS 2009. ..The requirements for DO schools are listed as well...

it's really stupid that biomedical engineering is not bcmp

This is probably an obvious answer but hey, why not ask?

I have taken Neuroscience courses, but they have been offered through my Psychology department (they show up as PSYC-xxxx courses on my transcript as well). Would I still count them in BCPM? In other words - I imagine being counted in BCPM happens regardless of what department the course is in?

The way you classify your courses should be based on content and not necessarily the department. I think neuro classes offered by psych departments are a perfect example of this. All mine counted as BCPM, so go for it. In the end, it never hurts to try. The worst that can happen is they'll change it. It won't delay anything.

Excellent. It'll only help my BCPM which I am a huge fan of. Thanks 🙂

what do you folks think about "physiological psychology" - physio, so bio? or psych, so psych (lol). It was mostly a lab-based course, so can I pull of bio?

also: "statistics in psychology" - through the psych department, but we didn't do any psych. So math is ok?

I had both these courses and they both counted under my BCPM. Go for it.

So if I was a math minor and statistics major at UG, and had like 8 courses w/ close to 4.0 avg, all of that would be weighted into BCPM? I'm going to take a post-bacc for all the pre-med reqs. Obv, they would still take the post-bacc grades into consideration, but for the BCPM, would it still count?

If they are math classes, they count in the Bio-Chem-Physics-Math GPA. All college courses count in your GPA, regardless of when you took them.

Is the BCPM GPA calculated from only undergraduate classes or from graduate as well??

Well, since you are supposed to classify on content, what about basic science courses under engineering designation? Just a basic course in thermodynamics for example, may be the same content as thermodynamics under chemistry or physics titles. Because really how much can you learn from a first course to actually qualify it as engineering thermodynamics meaning applied thermodynamics? The course was basically a continuation of the thermodynamics chapter from CHEM II and CALC PHYSICS I.

So analytical chemistry, instrumental analysis and inorganic chemistry all don't count?

That's a bummer.

As I've said before, you should list it as BCPM if you think it fits. Nothing terrible will come from trying. The worst that will happen is they disagree and they change it. No delays, no strikes against you.

Agreed. They even changed one of my classes from 'Health' to 'Biology'. I don't think it really fits in Biology, but it doesn't affect my GPA either way, so whatever.
