Which scenario does blackrock have more to gain or are they comparable:
1. getting ETF approved and collecting fees thus they would want the price of BTC to go up so they collect more fees yearly and stay up so they keep collecting more fees.

2. Do a massive 180 and short the hell out of btc even after etf approved thus pulling the rug on the whole crypto play

They’re smart money, so I say both. But if you’ve ever traded, you know that leverage kills, so if they’re caught on the wrong side of a call or put, they may need a bailout.

Has anyone used Fidelity to buy/sell BTC or ETH? Can we transfer BTC and ETH to sell on Fidelity? Is this treated the same as an exchange, not your keys not your coins? I trust Fidelity way more than Binance, Coinbase, Kraken etc.

Curious - will these crypto ETFs actually hold the actual coins 1:1, or are they going to be like some "gold" ETFs where the fund doesn't actually own gold bricks in a vault somewhere?

Going to be fascinating to watch the (probable?) run up in coin values when these ETFs make it easy for new people to put their fiat money where their FOMO mouths are.

My understanding is that every ETF issued has to be backed by actual BTC. This is what differentiates the pending “spot” ETFs from the currently available “futures” ETFs.

That’s why this is so huge.

So there will be a BTC and ETH ETF? What will be in each one? The top ten coins? Why would someone buy these vs buying BTC and ETH directly on Fidelity? Are these guaranteed to be bought? There's like a million ETFs.

I don’t understand your “top ten coins” question? The Bitcoin spot ETF will only track the BTC price; the Ethereum spot ETF will only track the ETH price. This is not like an energy sector or technology ETF made up of multiple companies (although there may be something like this eventually).

These ETFs are more like a Gold ETF. For example: GLD only tracks the price of gold, not “the top 10 precious metals”. Does that make sense?

I think your other questions (ex: why would people buy this?) have been asked and answered multiple times throughout this thread.

SOL broke 70. It has had higher trading volume than ETH for months now. Looks like it's for real.

ETH has been lagging, it was around 3k last time BTC was 43k

Not sure SOL will necessarily flip ETH, but there's more room to go in the gap narrowing.

I don't think SOL will ever flip ETH, but it might come in third ahead of BNB and XRP. I don't think ETH will ever flip BTC either.

Same with AVAX memes like COQ 🙂. Hopped in on some INJ ones - NINJA and KIRA. Just make sure you take profit!

Good to meet another degenerate in this forum besides me. Before people would ask questions like what’s the PE ratio of this company before I invest, what’s the future outlook….now the questions have come down to is this dog still wearing a hat? 😂

I really don’t trade crypto anymore (just accumulate what I like for a swing trade) but I will say DOGE has a history of cyclical movements that blows tops off.

Being early is the most reliable way to win here. Bought 3 MadLads a few months ago at 40 SOL when SOL was $20 and no one was talking about either of these. Had no way of predicting what would happen in the interim, but here we are...
Feels like most of the ETH folks have come over, and the easy SOL ****ter $ is over. But what do I know?

Now you ask wen lambo?

Still early.
Dunno, definitely feels much more PvP on SOL right now than a couple weeks ago. ETH OGs like Cole and Zata Zu have come over and are killing it, making it harder for plebs like myself. The fact that we're talking about it here on an anesthesiology board is already a sign that we're not super early. For those that are interested, might be worthwhile to share knowledge offline...

I started this thread over 3 years ago when BTC was 10K. I’ve been accumulating almost 7 years (although I first used it for online purchases 9 years ago). This bullrun imo is well under way, I’m referring to smart money and eventual laggards adoption. 2024 to 2025 we might see the hockey stick upwards towards adoption.

Also think still early.
total crypto market cap will still go up significantly next year
Another thing is so much bitcoin is now off exchanges stored in cold wallets, so when this thing rockets it will be harder for people to sell since more time intensive now. That’ll just add more fuel to the rocket

SOL flipped XRP. At this rate it will flip BNB too.

When do you guys think the "still early" phase will be over? Next year?

I think “early” is relative/subjective and depends on your goals/expectations.

But in my opinion, the price of bitcoin and many other crypto assets will be much higher in 2024/2025 than now, so does that mean we’re “still early” ?

To me early is the ability of retail to still buy 1 BTC. Getting close to where the vast majority will not be able to afford 1. I also look at the number of new wallets created that have BTC, institutional money (hedge funds, pensions, etc) accumulating etc.

Yeah that’s a decent benchmark…

What nobody knows and I’m interested to see is what happens after this next bull cycle? Do we get the typical 70-80% bear market crash like all previous cycles, or does all the additional institutional investment money from things like the spot ETFs “stabilize” the crypto market?

IF the latter, then it will be much more expensive for newcomers to enter the market than it is now.

Is it me or has ETH been sucking lately?

At the current rate, ethereum will have burned one full percent of its existing supply in 40 days. Take that information and do with it what you like
I’m currently holding 10 ETH. It might get passed by SOL and/or XRP, but I don’t think it’s going anywhere. I believe it will blow through its previous ATH at some point during the next cycle.

ETH market cap 269 bil
SOL market cap 42 bil

That would be crazy if SOL flipped ETH.

Good point… I didn’t realize SOL’s market cap was still that small. Lately people have been talking about it like it’s going to flip bitcoin 😂

Im probably watching too much crypto YT.

That didn't take long.
Isn’t BNB the binance exchange token?

I don’t understand why anyone would invest in an exchange token, let alone THAT exchange token. Isn’t binance failing, and their CEO about to go to prison?

This is like FTX/FTT/SBF all over again.

Yes but it actually has a lot of utility for dapps and other things that are over my head. The Binance Smart Chain has a lot of meme coins on it.

Interesting… so I’m assuming the “binance smart chain” is centralized? Who controls it? And if the binance entity ceases to exist, does the smart chain & everything on it “die”?

Either way, this is still a hard pass for me.

Does everyone plan to sell during the 2024-2025 bull cycle? If it pumps and dumps every 4 years then it seems like there's no reason to hold forever?

No, you buy during a bull and you buy even more when it dumps

When do you sell then? What's the point of holding if you know it will drop 50%+ during the bear market?

I plan on selling at least some. I will report back after I do.

You sell in retirement. The point of holding is that you have to time it right twice. Case in point is end of this year. And even all of last year when everyone says we’re going into recession.

If you’re holding stocks for investing, your time horizon is decades. Most of portfolio gains happen in just a handful of big Green Day’s. When you sell and try to time it, you probably are gonna miss out. So dollar cost average, and when market takes a ****ter, buy more and be thankful for the discount

That’s true of the stock market where you buy shares in companies with products, services, customers, assets, debt, etc.
This thread is about crypto ‘currency’ so almost no advice about actual investments applies. I mean the greater fool theory can be used to make money in the stock market too, but otherwise stock investing advice doesn’t work for crypto.
