As a predent I have gone through phases, going from "I'm going to approach this logically," to more recently, "I'll go anywhere that will take me!" I encourage everyone to take a look at the dental tab in their spare time, there is some eye opening stuff in there from recent grads and practicing dentists. I will definitely be approaching my decision a little differently after sifting through a bunch of those threads. It has a lot of information that some of us have questions about, and they are discussed by actual graduates and dentists, not some starry-eyed predent.

I read those too. Pretty crazy stuff. I can't believe that I'm actually considering turning down a profession if I can't get into an affordable school.

Same here. It's incredibly insane. All of this hard work might turn out to be for nothing because the degree isn't worth the debt at some schools.

There are always other options, given our academic background. So the hard work is not for nothing, rather, it may be for something else.

Something definitely worth considering. However, I feel like only a small percentage of applicants will consider this factor. The rest live with the mentality of living on loans and worrying about it later.
