Hi Sneha,
There is a Doctor in Bay area who teaches for Bech exam. She is very good in teaching and explained me all easy methods of making good preps. Ever since I took class from her, I am bound to do a good prep. Ofcourse, I need to check myself in Mockboard in Duggan though. She charges on per prep basis and you can take class for any prep you want. She charges very less....less than $200/prep.

Let me know if you want more details.

Manas

Can u pls. give me her info. I will be in the bay at the end of April. I live in New York

Someone knows how is the preparation of the Class II for Composite?
Hi,
IT's just like the amalgam prep. Only the composite prep is more shallow (less pulpal depth)and u don't need to have sharp line angeles.

Hello,

Does someone have a kilgore typodont to sell?

Please, let me know.
Hi,
you don't have to use a kilgore anymore. You can use your columbia. I am just saying that cause I think most people are using columbia .

How many of you choose to use kilgore typodont and how many columbia?
I will use columbia typodont.

Also:
Does anybody go to Dr. duggans mock board on march 13 at Newport beach location and want to share hotel room from sun to mon? I am looking for female roomate.

Full porcelin crown has shoulder allover(1mm)...dont slope the shoulder toomuch like PFM...just a little to remove the undermined enamel...no sharp corners..
Incisal clearance 1.3-1.5mm...everything else is like PFM...

hi everyone,
Just today I knew I am listed for april 7 - 9 exam and I called everywhere to find any course, since I live out of state and working full time, unfortunately all courses are booked, no mock boards even avaliable,
I was wondering does anyone know anybody who can help me get prepared for the exam, any critics on my work even, I took a course two years ago, not sure even how I can get study material , dvd for the new RT exam format.
God bless anyone who can help.
Thanks

there is a very good dentist in the bay area, his name is dr ryan thow... he teaches very well... he also takes classes.. but he does private coaching as well.. you can try to ask him.. i dont have his number.. but if you go back to the previous pages on this thread... i think pg 12-14.. his contact info is there... good luck with the exam..

I still dont get how far should we prepare the typodont tooth for class 3 or 4,
because it depends on the extend of decay?
any help with these two preparations would be helpful.

Thank you britedent
It was really helpfull. I took Duggans course 3 years ago and now I don't have any chance to take another course from Duggan. So I'm trying to do my best. Good luck to everyone who has their confirmation...

you should have a facial clearence of 0.4mm with the bevel(get 0.2mm clearence n bevel to make 0.4mm clearence)...draw an out line of 1.5mm for proximal, incisal n gingival wall...
for class4 gingival clearence of 0.4 is good...these preps are for the typhodont...in patient it depends on the extent of the decay...

hi

i may sound silly but pls if u cud let me know how one comes to know if one has been selected for the restorative exam . i thought the nos were posted on their web site ????? pls if u cud enlighten me .

thanks

I´ve heard that Dr. Duggans request a chamfer of almost 1mm in palatine-lingual and not a shoulder, so what is your opinion?

Heavy chamfer is the other option as you mentioned...both should work 🙂

A friend of mine is looking for a dental compressor n typhodont for the exam...pls reply if u have one for sale...

I am coming to california just a week before the exam so I am in bad need for someone to help me figure out in short the answer to my questions,
I need the exact measures of class 3 , Its a lingual approach and will not be extended facially or how far should we extend facially?
How wide proximally, gingivally and incisally the prep should go? and is the outline of the cavity circular or rectangular?
It says in operative dentistry book the bevel should extend 0.5 on the lingual and up to 1mm on the facial..Does that apply on the typodont as well or there are different measurements?
should we only use lingual approach throughout the preparation or we can apply the facial bevel from the facial direction.
In class 4, how far incisally should we remove in our preparation.
Please if anyone have duggans or ucla notes covering this portion and is willing to share please pm me.Thanks guys

I have a brand new kilgore for sale. I was called for the exam in April, so I need the money back for a while (I am broke 😀 )

the board will send you a letter in the mail if you are selected for the RT exam. i got my letter during the last week of february telling me i was selected for the april 21-23 RT exam.

does anyone who took the review class for the new RT exam format know the design of the composite preps for the RT exam? what are the specific measurements for class II, III, and IV preparations?

For those taking the exam at UOP, anybody knows an hotel close by.
Thanks

hi friends,,

i'm preparing for NbDE part 1 exams now.but only recently i came across this Restorative Exam in California.i read that it is given for candidates who have passed part 1 & part 2 before december 2003.is it true? cant anyone who has taken part 1 & 2 apply for it ?? pls reply..thanx

cadaver,
the cut off has been made. And for those who know, it was a long struggle by many to keep this program viable for as long as it did! I don't suspect any changes to it in the near future. Supply and demand will only tell!

Hi guys, is that right we dont need the manikin to sit for the exam, I mean we dont have to bring a manikin head nor the bar to the exam, we only need a typodont?

my question is the lingual wall of this preparation is convergent or divergent, I remember this prep is tilted lingually, so does that mean the buccal is convergent while the lingual is divergent?

You don't need to study on teeth 21,29. Check the Dental Boards web site. Assignments are limited to ten teeth which are 3,4,5,6,8,9,10,19,20,30.
In amalgam prep both lingual and facial walls should be convergent. You shouldn't see any part of the walls.

Ideally for an amalgam prep both the buccal n lingual walls are convergent but in case of lower especially the premolars as the teeth is leaning lingually you can make the lingul wall straight or slightly divergent...

yes, lower teeth have a slight lingual inclination (curve of wilson). Hold the bur along that ONE long axis through out the entire prep. (ie line it up parallel to the lingual wall and maintain that axis) It works out all the time, even on uppers! You start leaning and you'll be dealing with divergent, convergent and straight dilemmas. Keep it simple

Is that the kilgore typhodont DS200 with 32 teeth and without composite teeth , where did you buy it . if its the same i bought the same one for 180$

let me know the details

thanks

I didn't really understand from the dbc website if its only one composite prep and then we restore it or its two composite preparations and only one will be restored?
I know I am so late to know, 🙁 but at least it will help if i knew before the exam.
also it doesn't say if we need to submit any of our preps in rubberdam?
sdn is the only place from where I get true help, thanks for everyone.

I have a brand new whole package needed to practise preclinical work at home in great condition. Anyone who's going to apply to California schools will need just these to practise at home and get through.

The list is-

Compressor
Hand piece
columbia typodont
maniquin-- rod+ head
set of instruments from Duggans

For more details please PM me.

you have to do 2 composite preps...one for grading n the other for filling which will b graded(so dont take too much time for this prep as only the filling will b graded...but have a good outline for finishing the restoration)
there is no rubber dam n amalgam filling this time...u submit all the preps at the end of the exam...
