Actually an MD/PhD student in my lab showed that statistically the quality of the journal inversely correlates with the quality of the protein structure for papers featuring x-ray crystallography structure determination.

Yeah - I know, scary right? But it turns out that the big journals are more likely to have bad structures even to the point of alpha helices turning the wrong direction. Apparently the errors are pretty egregious.
