Did a search and most seem to apply to optometry and dental students who are lugging around a bunch of eye and teeth stuff. What is the general consensus for carrying stuff around in medical school? Does the faithful backpack still hold value in medical school or do most people use a messenger bag? Additionally, for those who've been at the game, what do you typically carry to class each day? Does a laptop/tablet and notebook get you by or do you find yourself carting around textbooks?

Carting textbooks is the only way to go if you want to pass. A hiking bag would work - a 60 liter would do the trick. Remember to get every book on the recommended list in advance and pre-read them all.

Holy crap this board is getting more neurotic every day.

You ain't kidding. Nobody can make a decision without consulting this place.

Grow up people! Your mammies aren't here to hold your little hands.

I'm doing a cohort study on this very question. Once we get IRB approval, I'll post the results to this thread.

Certainly, if you knew me, this comment would sound ridiculous. My hands may very well be more weathered than your own. Honestly, things like this amount to checking a review site, only this was a directed question.

Not only do I carry heavy bags for a living, but I don't want to do it any more than necessary as I transition to medical school. Anyone who has successfully jumped the hoops to get to medical school knows the importance, both educationally and financially, of not buying every single recommended book or item someone "recommended" during their post-secondary education. I was bored and asked a question. Get over it, feel superior, whatever makes you feel better.

Neurotic question met by overly dramatic response. Hmm..

I was looking at reviews too and to me the north face surge 2 sounds good bc it has laptop sleeve and tablet sleeve. And it doesn't seem too big but big enough. If not there is always ll bean which has good warranties or ebags sells their own backpacks too which are much bigger.

Ogio Squadron II

Best backpack I've ever owned. Laptop slot that's got thick padding and individual ipad pocket inside main pouch. Todd of other awesome stuff!

I really like the backpack the Air Force gave me after commissioning. All you have to do is sign your life away!
