best calendar/planner software?

I need a software to write down deadlines, appointments, meetings etc to be able to visualize it better over 4 months. I'm also planning to install it in my dropbox so it has to be under 1 gig.. Hopefully freeware, but I'll pay up to 40 dollars for a good organizer. Any suggestions?

*Not* a techie at all, but for what it's worth:....I have Novell Groupwise for email, and think that its planner is pretty decent. Anymore, though, I upse my iPhone calendar just for convenience.

I use a physical planner, color coded and everything. I input appointments that I ABSOLUTELY CANNOT AFFORD TO MISS into my cheap-ass cell phone with reminder tones starting six hours before (unless it's a morning appointment). Other than the phone thing, I'm pretty old-fashioned.

(And I mean old-fashioned. I have an actual, physical address book, a carbon-and-ink planner, a calendar on my wall (next to my world map), and I write letters. With PENS.

And for more cognitive dissonance, I'm fluent in three programming languages and can fix any computer if you give me an hour with it. Typing speed = 90 wpm. )

I use my winmo phone mostly, but I also have an excel file with a 2010 calendar for me to write in stuff.

My school gives out these calender planners and it breaks down each day by the hour (from 8am to 12am I believe) and I use that. I prefer a physical book planner for several reasons.
#1) I have horrible luck when it comes to electronics (my awesome/expensive gaming laptop died after 1 year and 3 months and it had a 1 year warranty, every mp3 player has messed up)
#2) I find it much easier to flip through pages than it is to press a button and view only a day or an hour because the screen is like 2"
#3) Cheaper
#4) Less likely to be stolen

I make my own Excel sheet with a color coordinated calendar then more detailed log. It took a little time to set up but it's exactly what I want and need because I built it from scratch. It's great because I can print it out or make changes on the fly because I upload it to Google Docs which I can access from my smartphone. I supplement this with my phones calendar and so far so good.

I've used Outlook and it's good. I didn't know about the last two. I also use Google Calendar.

For the record: Both the Mozilla programs will allow you to edit a Google calendar from straight within the software. Pretty sure Outlook does too.

I use a combination of Google Calendar (for managing schedule of classes, events, etc) and Remember the Milk (to-do list and deadlines for assignments). As I go through each item, I just mark it complete.

Btw, dropbox gives 2GB free.

you can sync gmail calendar with your iphone too...

search it on google, and it'll tell u how! 🙂 really simple and it's AWESOME! Everytime you sync your iphone, it automatically syncs with gmail too...so you're calendars always updated.

Google Calendar's default is 'Event' which is unnecessary. Switch to 'Task' and managing to-do lists becomes easier and faster.

What do you mean? Events still show up in agenda no? And how do you do this?

Down as in website downtime? I have been using RTM for over a year now and have never seen the site have any downtime.

Gcal does have a todo list called "Tasks." Just above the minicalendar on the left hand side, there should be a link for Tasks. Click that and a new gadget window will show on the very right side of the screen. If you use gmail as well, there is a Tasks link on the left panel just below the Contacts link. Imo, this list is just too basic compared to RTM, because it does not allow you to repeat items. For example, if you have a hw assignment or online quiz due every friday, you need to manually enter it in every week.

Mozillia Thunderbird (with Lightning installed) has a todo list, as does Outlook. 🙂

If you'd like a completely separate app, I'd recommend this:

I'm not sure if this is an option for you, but I have found Google Calender to be more than efficient.

What's more, I just got a Motorola Droid and I can sync Google Calender to Android. Make entries online on my computer and they sync right to the device.
