Hello all, I'm very likely going into child adolescent psych and am hoping to make a really good impression during my inpatient CAP rotation. I would appreciate some recommendations for books/articles/etc for studying. I would also really appreciate any tips on how to stand out from a group of already strong residents. Thanks everyone!

From personal experience the residents who "do best" or "stand out" the most on C/A rotations are those who are enthusiastic and have good rapport with kids and adolescents. Generally it's pretty self selecting in that by the fact you are interested in child/adolescent, you will likely try harder than your peers who may be leaning more towards adult or geri.

Absolutely, some of the best adult residents can look terrible in CAP. OP I would just be yourself, treat each day as a chance to help a child and learn yourself and you will be fine. If you're naturally drawn to the population, it will shine through. Your attendings are academic CAP for a reason (hint: not for the salary) and you should be able to identify the ones that are interested in teaching/have the time to do so.

CAP is overwhelmingly non-competitive as the need for providers always exceeds the number of adult psych residents interested in taking on the fellowship, you aren't trying to impress derm attendings as a med student anymore 😎.

Thank you for the advice everyone! I'm looking forward to the experience 🙂
