Thought I would start a thread about this. I did a search and didn't find anything. Thanks for all the help again. I am looking at AZCOM...doing lots of searching...and have read some negatives about the clinical rotations....just trying to get opinions of others on the rankings of D.O. schools..thanks again..

You probably didn't find rankings because there aren't any. People in DO schools don't care much about the rankings. If you want rankings, look at U.S. News. They rank MSUCOM, TCOM, and WVSOM.

If you are really worried about rankings of the schools, goto allopathic schools. Going to medical school is not all about rankings.

Mine is the best!
Your sucks!

We should request them to rank schools for next year 😀 That way the people that are interested in rankings would know.

Just put them in order from highest GPA/MCAT to lowest. Then rank them based on board pass rate.

See if they correspond.

I can tell you that if you took that list right now and did that, that the top school in fact did have the highest pass rate, and the bottom school really did have the lowest. I can't tell you about those in between, however.

Yeahhh sooo!!!! your point is what?

OSU is the center of the Universe. You want a metal or something?

On a national scale DO schools are on the bottom. The students going to DO schools have a lower GPA and MCAT scores, and do lower on USMLE (comlex), and if you really wish.. they are not as good a physician 😱 .

WOW.. you have just made it so clear to me.

You know, Gwendolyn, I've had it up to here w/ your list above from Penn, why "Oh Suck 'Em" is the best med school on the planet, why anyone who doesn't go into EM is dumb, why D.O.s are better than M.D.s, etc. etc.

Your link above SUCKS b/c it compares all DIFFERENT entering classes. I know you know everything, but I also know that you have never been on an admissions committee for your D.O. school. Well, I've was on my school's ad comm for the better part of two years and you know what? There is variability of scores between entering classes! Can you believe that?? I'm not a statistician (I'm sure you learned all about stats in paramedic school), but if you mess with means and standard deviations and the like, I'm sure you will see that with the exception of a couple outliers (meaning particular entering classes for a particular year for a certain school), it's all pretty close numbers wise. And that only makes sense. So OSU-COM has the highest GPA and the near highest MCAT (for the 2002 entering class ONLY) on your precious list....whooptie f*ckin doo!!

OSU-COM may be a decently established D.O. school....so what? So is mine....so is a lot of peoples! I respect your school pride, but realize your school had faults just like other schools. Don't believe me? Well your school/teaching facility CERTAINLY has PLENTY of f*ck-ups that I deal with on almost a weekly basis at OU. That's not rhetoric bullsh*t, that's the truth! And as far as your fascination about OSU-COM being the best med school in the state, think again. Both schools have advantages and disadvantages over each other, just like most other states that have both state-funded D.O. and M.D. schools. You talk all the time about your 100% pass rate for boards at OSU-COM. So what? What are your mean/median scores for COMLEX and USMLE? It's real easy to get a 401 on step I. It's not so easy to break 600. Get my drift? I would bet my left nut there are a bunch of D.O. schools out there like TCOM or KCOM that have much HIGHER mean COMLEX scores. What I have just said goes double for your praise of a 100% pass rate on USMLE I. What about match lists for OSU vs. OU? How about last years match? How many Dermatologists did OSU match? How about Plastic Surgery? How about Urology? How about Neurosurgery? How about all the other residency matches? How did OSU do? What about WHERE they matched also? The majority of OU students matched at institutions OTHER THAN their own. Can OSU say that? Remember, these questions are all relatively good or bad, depending on who you are and what you want out of life. So blanket statements like "my school is better than yours" just don't fly around here. And at least if you're gonna say stupid **** like that, have the stats to back it up. Really!

And the whole EM thing.....dude, what the hell is wrong with you? Again, its a profession w/ both advantages and disadvantages. IMO, being a glorified triage nurse does not intellectually stimulate me enough to outweigh the lifestyle benefits of EM. That's my opinion, as well as hundreds of thousands of other physicians. Just a bunch of dumb-f*cks, aren't we?

You are pathetic and absurd, OSUdoc. It embarasses me to no end that our profession includes clowns like yourself. What's really sad is that some day people are gonna roll thru the ED doors in need of serious help and they are gonna have to face you, in all of your arrogance, apathy, and stupidity. And then that person or a family member will see that big 'ol "D.O." after your name, resulting in more opression and subjecting more bullsh*t to myself and the other caring, compassionate, and intelligent D.O.s out there. That also does your school some serious injustice, b/c they put out more docs like that as opposed to degenerates like you.

I am ashamed at myself that I have managed to stoop to your level, OSUdoc. Sometimes purging yourself is a healthy thing. And believe me when I tell you that I am NOT the only one who feels this way. From SDN, OSU, etc. etc. I will never engage you again....so you'll have to manage w/o my commentary . Unfortunately, SDN will have to deal with yours for a long time to come. Do SDN and the world a favor and seek a mental health professional. You seriously need to address your narcissistic personality d/o. Oh yeah, and for future reference, if you ever have anything to say to me - ITS DOCTOR TO YOU!!

Sincerely,

Feelgood, D.O.

P.S. - To DrMom and any other moderator, I am a man of promise. I will NEVER insult or respond to OSUdoc ever again. So no need to send me a threatening PM or what have you.

AZCOM has it's ups and downs, just like other schools, but I still stand behind it because you will get a great education. For all the BS that goes around about clinical rotations, we really shine as physicians when we get out into residency. Our students match at some great programs. I have had the opportunity to stay in Phoenix, but also have had exposure to many fine institutions, and I consider myself well-rounded because of it. Just something to think about 🙂

Are you bitter about attending a DO school? It sure sounds like it.

Yeah.. I must be bitter!!! You should be a mind reader rather then a prick. How old are you? How can you afford to spend so much time on SDN? You must be a genious, cause you don't have to study much.

What does anoye me is that you continuously think that OSU is the best $hit that happened to this world since you. Face it, arrogance is like piss beer... you can take down and support it when your drunk. But you know you going to feel it later.

How can that individual afford to spend so much time on SDN? I think you have the most posts on this thread buddy.

Here's a data point: the stats for COMP are from my class. You'll note that we had the highest MCAT entrance score, and a mid-range GPA. Fast forward to today: of the original 175 people entering we lost ~20 for various reasons. Of the remaining class, we had a ~87% pass rate on COMLEX 1, and ~80% scored below the mean of 500. The national pass rate is higher, and I have no clue about the national mean.

Food for thought - it's not all about the stats.

And while this thread may or may not have been informative, it's become personal, so I'm closing it down.
