Depends on you really. I think you should start with reviewing the AAMC outlines of stuff you need on the mcat. It can be found here: mcat-review.org (not AAMC site, but it list all the contents needed). Then gauge yourself, which materials are you great at, how long ago did you take those pre-reqs (ochem, phys, bio, etc.). Then go to Barnes and Nobles and flip open the books, look at which one helps explain the concepts you are weak at better. The only thing you can't preview is TBR books, unless someone you know have one, all I can say is they are dense.
I think in terms of practice materials you can use almost any book. There's always mixed reviews on practice material so really you gotta be the judge.
