I've reviewed a lot of posts on sdn regarding jobs (mostly CNA/EMT/Scribe discussions)
I've also found some higher paying jobs that require more time to acquire.

(Avg salary as per glassdoor)

-------------------------
Quick training:

Scribe
$23,602/yr

-------------------------
Require half a year of study:

EMT-B/ER Tech
$28,111/yr

CNA
$25,111/yr

Phlebotomist
$28,722/yr

-------------------------
Require 1 year of study:

Substance Abuse Counselor
$38,132/yr

Medical Assistant
$31,508/yr

Ultrasound Technician*
$57,254/yr

*Typically requires 2 yrs, but there are accelerated programs for those with previous college credit.
These certificate programs may lead to lower pay? Not enough info.

------------------------------------------

Of all of these, it seems either go for scribe (fast training, same pay as CNA) or put in the training for Ultrasound tech.

Can anyone chime in on which one looks best for med school apps?

Don't do which one "looks best" just do the one you want to do. Also, the average salary doesn't do you any good. I make $40k a year as a medical assistant with no previous training or additional certificate. Look on Indeed for jobs you are interested in and see if any would be willing to train you on the job.

Thanks. I'll see if I can get a medical assistant job with on the job training. That would be ideal: Great patient contact, great doctor contact, better pay than scribe, less time on training, and an enjoyable job.

Agreed- whatever gives you the direct patient interaction, or whatever mimics the medical field the most, would "look best" for your application, but ultimately, what you want to do should outweigh what looks best or what makes the most money.
