Hi all,

When using UWorld, which mode do you think is most beneficial?

I choose timed/test mode/46 questions at a time. I think the benefit of this is that you have to go through the whole block like you would in the real test. The disadvantage is that (for me) I sometimes don't get to the Q's explanations until a day or so later - because it takes time to go through the answers.

Also, I presume the stage you'r at in your studying will make a difference in the best mode to choose. I'm in the beginning/learning stages.

So please let me know if there's a consensus on best/optimal mode of use.

I felt that in the early stages doing untimed and specific to the subject you are studying was helpful. It points out your weaknesses and lets you know what you need to go over. After doing 1 pass through FA I then started doing random sets of 46.

But you MUST review your questions right after you do them or you will fall behind. If it gets to be too hard, I would say do less than 46 at a time then. You won't learn anything if you don't read the explanations. In the end you save time by reviewing them right after since you are already know what the question asked...if you review a few days later you will have to re-read the question.

You're right in paragraph 2! Thanks.

For now I am doing subject specific. Whatever subjects review book I've read, then do Qs. There are many subjects I haven't done even a 1st pass study so I'm not doing Qs on those yet. But eventually hopefully will do random sets including all subjects

Any others' thoughts on mode?

I started uworld in jan, and i take the exam next month. I thought it was really helpful to do uworld subject specific blocks, in untimed - tutor mode. I think this was good for me because when i took test in the not-tutor mode - my attention waned during the block when i had to read the answers.

But now getting closer to the test i plan on doing it over again in two weeks - in untimed - random - tutor mode. But i start usmle rx tomorrow - and to get through that bank as much of it as i can - i probably will do it in timed - random - not tutor mode.

I only got USMLE world for the last month before the exam. (I take the test in June) I used Kaplan for the months leading up, picking at specific topics in untimed tutor mode. The way I am using it is times 46 question blocks every morning. I immediately then go over my test. Takes like 2-3 hours. Then I go do DIT for the rest of the day. Rinse and repeat. Once I'm done with DIT I figure I will have about a week to do multiple blocks a day. (again timed then review) I figure I will also try to do all the pharm questions in kaplan on tutor mode since I am still weak in pharm.
