Seriously, try getting some of the negative heel shoes or shoes that have a very soft and squishy insole. I wear Merrell jungle mocs and they are about as comfy as they come. If you go to uniform shops for medical professions they sell all sorts of shoes that are good for standing in all day. Another thing to consider is get some compression socks to help with aching legs and prevent spider/vericose veins. 15-20mm Hg is good enough to keep those away and relieve the aching in your legs.

Rockports, by far. They're pretty inexpensive and last forever. I've had the same pair for 5 years and just now they're starting to show enough wear that I need to get new ones...

These are boss for work.

Rockports are pretty darn comfy, I've had a pair of their dress shoes for a while now. I forgot to mention that the reason I can get away with wearing the jungle mocs at work and not look odd is because we wear scrubs at my pharmacy. I work in the compounding lab and you don't want the stuff we work with getting on regular clothes you would wear somewhere else.

Crocs. But get them in black, so you look professional.

I would go with a black sneakers/walking shoes of some sort. In a pharmacy setting, most people aren't going to notice your feet, and pickier supervisors typically don't care unless you wear a color that really stands out.

Very true

Clogs are acceptable in the pharmacy?

I've seen doctors wear them... but they didn't look like normal colorful ones people wear at the beach, they had no holes in them and were dark colored.

I used to work at a comfort shoe store and for people in the medical field the best shoes are clogs, specifically this brand called "dankso" which really has a good arch support. remember when buying shoes dont look for the one with the most cushion, look for the sturdier one with more support on them and a good arch. if your not allowed to wear clogs...try other comfort brands like ecco or mephisto....dont bother with rockport ever since they were bought by reebok they have become complete garbage. danksos aint pretty but you can last on these bad boys for 10-12 hrs standing daily....the good arch support takes pressure off your heels which also takes pressure off your back too.

I'm starting out my tech position at a retail store next week. I'd imagine I should wait to get a feel for my supervisors before I bust out the clogs (They are brown leather birks).

My pathologist buddy swears by these. According to him a lot of the doctors he's worked with won't wear anything else, they're apparently super comfortable and last nearly forever.

what's a good retail chain store that sells these shoes? I want to try out a pair...

+1 on Dansko. Although I don't own these currently, my brother who works in the ER swears by them. I'll probably pick them up once I graduate. You can find them in any medical scrubs store.

So I bought two pairs of comfortable shoes for my internship this summer. Both at first pinched the wide part near the ball of my foot, but I usually have this problem, and usually it clears up as the shoes stretch out. However...

The Rockports are now my favorites. They are very cushiony, and they were less than $100, I think around $80 or so, which is a good deal for comfy shoes. Mine are basically black leather sneakers, so they can go either dressier or casual. It seriously feels like walking on air.

I also got a pair of Danskos. They aren't the clogs but more dress shoes that I can wear with a skirt. While they have the heel support, they still pinch at the ball of my foot and haven't stretched out like the Rockports have. As well, my toes feel very achy in them. They also scraped into the back of my heel the first day I wore them. And they were about $120.

Moral of the story: get what feels comfortable for you!

By the way, anyone else get a numb feeling in their toes after being on their feet all day, even when wearing supportive shoes? Will this ever go away??
