Is there a ranking of these?

Yes, you highlight the state schools in US News and put them in consecutive order.

Thanks for this list - sorry about rushing to judgment earlier....

I am the best state school :)

Wash U is private; that list is not state schools, its all schools.

University of Washington....great school, great price, great location.

UCSF is world reknowned and is arguable more prestigious than both Duke and Univ of Pennsylvania, schools ranked higher on the USNews list than UCSF. Plus, both the pre-clinical and clinical training is out of this world. The curriculum is awesome, and very student friendly: Class time is limited to 20 hrs/week in the first two years and is pass fail; the last two years are honors, pass/fail and are at amazing facilities, including the world famous UCSF Medical center. Obviously, UCSF is one of my top choices ;) :D

Because I am bored at work I decided to cut all the private schools out of the research rankings of the top 35.

6. University of California–San Francisco
7. University of Michigan–Ann Arbor
10. University of Washington
14. University of California–Los Angeles (Geffen)
17. University of California–San Diego
17. U. of Texas Southwestern Medical Center–Dallas
20. University of North Carolina–Chapel Hill
25. University of Alabama–Birmingham
25. University of Virginia
25. University of Wisconsin–Madison
28. University of Iowa (Roy J. & Lucille A. Carver)
31. University of Colorado Health Sciences Center
34. Oregon Health & Science University
34. University of Minnesota–Twin Cities

I would count Baylor too, since 2/3rds of its class are Texas state reidents and they get reduced tuition.
But Baylor still is a private institution, just with extreme preference and rewards for Tx residents.

 now if we eliminate the state schools who act like pretentious private schools....

waiting....

So UCSF, UCLA, UNC and UVa didn't make that cut? I would have thought UM and their 11.5 MCAT would have been cut as well.

watch Ohio State storm to the top of this list in 5 years. Guaranteed. ;)

Thats what OSU is publicly gunning for, and the major reason they're putting up the new biomedical research tower without designated funding from the university or the state.

They arnt to far off the list, I think they might have been the next public school ranked but I just got bored. Anyway, there is no way they will crack the top 25 no matter how much they try. Remember, the majority of these schools are trying to move up in the rankings. NIH grants are always being stressed for the faculty, new research and med school facilities are always being built, avg stats of students increasing, blah blah.

According to the AAMC U Pitt is private actually, but USNEWS considers it public. Anyone know why ?

Do you know if they favor PA residents in admissions? I didn't think they did and I thought it was weird, too.

The University of Pittsburgh is a "state-related" school, meaning it gets some limited amount of funding from the state, but not enough to be considered a state school.

So it shows little if any preference to in-state applicants.

Haha, well if thats not confusing I don't know what is! I thought a lot of private schools get some(limitted) funding from the state.
