In an attempt to add a bit of variety to the lame topics that Jet pointed out, what do you think is the best text in each of the following categories?:

General large anesthesiology text-
Cardiothoracic anesthesiology-
TEE for the anesthesiologist-
OB Anesthesiology-
Regional atlas-
Chronic Pain mgmt-
critical care (comprehensive)-
critical care (smaller guide or handbook)-
written board review-
oral board review-

You need not answer all categories.
Just want to see what people are reading so we can make best recommendations to residents on this forum.

Here's mine:
General large anesthesiology text-Miller. Flipped through Longnecker's book a while back and it looked pretty good too.
Cardiothoracic anesthesiology-no vote
TEE for the anesthesiologist-no vote
OB Anesthesiology-Chestnut
Regional atlas-NYSORA on line is probably favorite
Chronic Pain mgmt-mix of Bonica, Waldman's 2 volume text and Cousins and Bridenbaugh's text
critical care (comprehensive)-no vote
critical care (smaller guide or handbook)-no vote
written board review-Big Blue still pretty good, but could use an overhaul. ACE questions excellent and written by some of the same question writers. Baby Miller and Lange text are not bad reviews. Very high yield.
oral board review-Stoelting's coexisting disease, Board Stiff, Yao and Artusio, Ho's review book in that order IMHO.

You're trying to make the forum more interesting with a thread about TEXTBOOKS? Sorry, just bustin your b@ll$ a bit.

General - Barash. I went to public school in Texas, Miller is just too much for me. Barash is plenty for the boards.

ICU - I think I'm the only non-Marino guy ever, but I feel like he was writing his own opinion more than anything. I like Civetta but it's a little heavy for residency rotations. Marini and Criner have books you could get through i you wanted.

Cardiac - Hensley. More of a handbook than a textbook. Solid though.

Cardiac - Hensley
TEE - Mathew
OB - Are you frickin' kidding me? Any OB anesthesia textbook is a waste of time by definition.

General large anesthesiology text- Tie Miller/Barash Hard copy of Barash, Miller on Kindle. The kindle packs light in my backpack, kindle app on iphone. Miller on the go

OB Anesthesiology- Is there another book besides Chestnut in this category?

critical care (comprehensive)-I bought Parrillo, worked in ICU fellowship

critical care (smaller guide or handbook)-small and quick Transcon, bit bigger but still brief Marino

written board review-a book of test questions, I honestly can't remember which one I used

oral board review-board stiff, latest edition

I guess Cote is the peds book. Have to admit I only cracked it a couple times though.

For fellows maybe, as a reference. For residents on pedi rotation would stick to the pedi chapters in the big reference books or Steward's handbook. Don't particularly recommend Practical Approach.

General large anesthesiology text- Barash print and because some chapters arenot so good, miller through institutional access.
Cardiothoracic anesthesiology-Practical approach to cardiac anesthesia
Regional atlas-
nysora online and nerveblocks.net
critical care (comprehensive)-
CurrentCritical care
critical care (smaller guide or handbook)-
MGHHandbook
