Best time to send LOI/update letters?

I was waitlisted to a school with significant WL movement in Jan, and they finish sending out initial acceptances late March. WL movement for them starts in May. Is there a best time to send in LOI/update letters so that they are reviewed and taken into consideration?

No clue, those never did anything for me. I started sending them out once I had interviews to other places.

I've heard sometimes its good to send them out to a place if you have an interview to another place near the area so you can avoid traveling to that area twice.
